generator to home panel connection

completly safe unless you grab the male prungs that stick out. Thats the point You have to be careful . But what is the alternative? a male rescessed outlet plug?

this cord end would only be live when the generator is started. So the cord is plugged into the wall outlet first then the generator started.simple procedure.

Are you kidding ? A double ended male cord is blatantly illegal and dangerous.

Yes no ''winning'' here. People are so personal about it I don't think they can sit and figure out what the poster really means or does.

In my situation there isnt backfeeding becasue I shut the main off. Thats been standard procedure for the last 35 years for me.(right or wrong) for people.

All good ideas and viewpoints,respectively.

The power transfer HAS TO BE INTERLOCKED. Free hand opening the main breaker and back feeding IS NOT acceptable. Get it ?

What respect? How do we electrical professions respect a jackleg tinkerer who tells us his back feed system is ok ?

I the other has 3 switches in it and the electrician has told me I turn all three of those switches off and that disconnects me from the grid and then I plug my cable coming from the panel inside my house into my generator and start it up..There is no transfer switch and the electrician said none is necessary since when I throw those three switches it disconnects the whole house from the grid...Comments ?

We would see the setup and know the manufacture and model of the transfer system.
An interlocked transfer switch is a single switch that breaks the utility connection before making the generator connection.
Does your system isolate some electrical loads when on generator power ?

Many different ways to do it , as many ways for people to find safety faults. What ultimately matters is that there is no current flowing to the pole.

NO, there is one way to do it and that is with an transfer switch that can not tie the generator to the utility no matter who flips what switch. All other jackleg cob jobs are illegal and dangerous.

Every tombstone by the transformer on our utility has manual switch. I need to add only a male plug bolted to the tombstone and connect it to switch. (On the picture: Middle lugs on the bottom of the switch.) Then the cable between the generator and the tombstone will be male on the generator end and female on the tombstone end.
The lever has three positions:
Up: Connected to utility.
Horizontal: All disconnected.
Down: Connected to the external power source.

The male plug can not be live. The female plug must be energized by the generator and the load be the male plug.

The male receptacle bolted on the tombstone would be energized only when the cable from the geny is plugged in.
