How about a couple of sand bags around the wheels to keep it from rolling around when running?

Why not build a set of very basic chocks?

I agree on trying it first to see if there is a problem but we use these all the time and they work great.

I am seriously considering buying this rough terrain mobile base for my 7000 watt genny. It has 5" wheels and a 800 lb. limit. The biggest drawback is the price at $230.

I have a base similar to that on my table saw, got it from Grizzly Tool. I don't know what I paid but I know it wasn't even close to that price.

Which one of the 14 bases on your link have 5" casters? I clicked on 5 of the 14 shown and none of them said what size they were...unless I missed it.

A 5" urethane wheel is much easier to push/pull over a dirty floor or expansion joints. Most of them have 3" or less and are hard plastic of some kind.

Funny how a tiny chunk of gravel or itty bitty piece off a log will bring a wheeled item to a halt...so you need a large wheel. Then you need to find away to keep the **** thing from "walking" on its own.

Your dad is not getting any younger so think long term. Mount the generator in a shed that can be opened up for safe operation. Have the natural gas line run with a ball valve so he does not need to connect it. Run a 110V outlet for the trickle charger and wire up a couple of lights. Sink a pole and chain the generator to it. Have a good lock on the shed door. Dragging out a generator and hooking it up at night and/or a storm and/or a foot of snow and/or a sheet of ice gets harder and harder. Seems we rarely need the gen set when it is pleasant out.

Not your cheapest option but Bora brand is pretty good. I use a different one of their bases for my 18in vertical bandsaw.

unfortunately generator theft is a real issue, and i want it as close as possible to the gnatural gas source.

Isn't that the (sick) truth!

Couple years ago, my wife's brother & family (daughter has spinal bifida and is wheelchair bound) came to visit during winter for a week. Don't you know that the day after they arrived, power went out (blizzard). Wife's OTHER brother had a heavy duty generator so put it into his second truck, drove it over and we wired it into our panel box (he's an electrician) and yes, we were 100% careful to turn main power OFF.

Anyway, back to story.... we kept it for about the week they were here and it was a near (literal) life saver (hers).

So, brother #2 came, got truck, drove home. Had the truck with generator sitting next to his shop. That very night, someone stole the truck with generator in it. They found the truck several days later dumped in the woods and I don't think to this day, the generator has ever been found.

So he does a good deed to help keep his disabled niece safe....and gets repaid by someone doing that to him.

i can tell ya right now, you better not leave pavement with it. my tires sink in over an inch with wet ground.

I'd take a 4" chunk of 2x4 cut it in half diagonally, put a screw-eye bolt in either half and fasten them with a length of wire so they would span a wheel.
But then I'm cheap and have all the parts.

Best solution so you don't have to strain to move it or even mess with it would be to make it easy for all is permanent installation with auto start and cut over....

All the solutions presented are only bandaids and probably not going to work well as "dad" gets older....

Gotta agree with you here.
If dad cant move it then make it stationary. Then their wont be any issues.

If you have to roll this back and forth get a used piece of welding cable and wrap it around all 4 wheels.Welding cable will stop anything.
