Georgia , good places to live?

VT.....If you know all of this already and you have your daughter's mind made up, why ask????............Surely am glad I live in a totally different part of Georgia where I am safely away from the "know it all" folks that come here to "carpetbag", tell everyone how everything was so much better where they came from, make fun of how stupid the native folks are, and get angry when folks don't try to change the way things are done here to the way it is done "back home"..............
Pretty much the only time I come across this mindset is when I stop at the truckstop for gas over on I-75 and encounter folks who don't know how to say thank you when you hold the door open for them, won't give you eye contact, have no idea how to say hello, and think you are a bit slow in the mind if you try to describe how to avoid Atlanta traffic............

I really hope that your daughter finds herself happy in and around Atlanta. Obviously ignored is the advice about the traffic and commuting from place to place. Really, I would point her to finding an apartment type situation in "Buckhead" or Mid-town. Yes, she will pay in the $1000 to $1500 a month range, but she will have mass trans, great shopping, folks like her that are transplants, security from the natives that really will take everything she has, slow or fast night life, excellent eateries, and a place to get her feet on the ground til she is acclimated and finds what she really wants to do...........

Sounds to me that she ought to rent. I don't know much about Atlanta but if you asking questions about what it's like... buying a place doesn't sound smart until you personally really know the area. My :2cents:

No need to get so testy! Is that an example of southern hospitality? The job is good enough to move a thousand miles to, so if offered will get taken. That traffic in Atlanta is horrific is not exactly a secret and is one of the first things we learned when looking for housing. There is a balance between the advantages of living in town vs. commuting to the burbs which she is considering. We get a lot of flatlanders here in Vermont that have moved up from Boston to get away from the urban hustle. They love the quiet and solitude but soon complain about the lack of curbside recycling. Before you know it they are running for school board or the State legislature and trying to show us the proper way to do things. Sound familiar?
I'm looking for the inside information about individual neighborhoods both inside and outside the beltway that I can't find with a Google search or on Zillow. Thank you for the Buck head and Mid town suggestions. Would you care to elaborate?

That will most likely be what she does for the first year or so but a rental in the wrong place can be a hassle to move from and even dangerous so some research is in order.

Granted! I didn't suggest at all that research wasn't in order.

As others have said the traffic can be very difficult and should be considered carefully. If she wants a rural or semi-rural location then she will have to suffer the long commutes during the normal office working schedule. There is just no way to beat the traffic volume North and South outside the Perimeter on US75, US85 or GA400. We moved to Atlanta 25 years ago and the traffic issues have grown exponentially in that time. (We have since retired two years ago one hour East of Atlanta) If she is planning to buy inside the Perimeter then try and stay out of Fulton county because of the aforementioned high property tax, water and sewer costs. BTDT for 20+ years. If you wish, feel free to PM me for more specifics. Best of luck to your daughter.

Surely NOT to be rude above.....BUT...........Atlanta is over run with folks who moved here from mostly the NORTH......What I wrote really does apply to MANY of those folks. As you rebutted most of the advice given above with your opines with the Vermont bent it would seem, that you are following this trend. In addition, I would really like to hear from your daughter. Not just the concerned parent, bless YOUR HEART, who wants the best for her.........BUT WHAT DOES SHE WANT????????

I guess I am from the generation that did not have parents doing everything for them as it seems many of the current flock are doing for their children. That is well and good; but it may lead to some kids that cannot fend for themselves or else resentment towards those who made these choices for them that they really did NOT want............oh well.....I go on and on......

NOT to be rude kind father.......Southern hospitality is a myth put out by folks from other places who try to embarrass Southerners when they say so called rude remarks. It is what it is..........Again, for me, I would move where there is public trans, into an area that I have checked into the crime statistics and go from there........THERE IS A TERRIBLE CRIME PROBLEM in Atlanta.....mugging, gang stuff, rape, murder, robbery and on and on.............Yes, this is pretty much everywhere, but for this ol boy it is out of control there except in a very few areas.

Atlanta is developing an old rail road line around the city.....The silver comet trail, I believe......MANY dollars are being used for public trans, parks, and amenities to draw in just the kind of folks that your daughter might be.........

Have you considered her getting a concealed carry permit?????...........For me, I would not send my daughter even close to here without one...........

By the way, my son, 26, made the move down there for school perhaps now 4 years ago........He has worn out one car and is going on his second.....He has his permit and yes, has needed it twice now as he has been getting gas at places.........But, would he move back up here into the sticks? "Not now dad, maybe when I get old like YOU. I am having WAY to much fun NOW"........God bless......Dennis

Maybe his daughter is not on TBN.

A dad tries to help his daughter and he gets lectured?

The concealed carry permit is an excellent idea. She hasn't thought of that as they are not required in VT.
As you rebutted most of the advice given above with your opines with the Vermont bent it would seem,
I didn't rebut anybodies advise and she and I will keep it all in mind.
I have three grown daughters and a wife and I don't recall the last time any of them asked me what to do or did what I said just on my say so. I made the inquiry here because I'm a member and she is not. I am hardly a helicopter Dad hovering over my children's every decision.
Where are the crack den high crime neighborhoods and what areas need to be avoided at night?
