Get off the seat---engine stops

there are alot of times that the seat switch is a pain. i often like to stand when i brush hog tall grass so i can watch for objects more easily...with the seat switch it dies when in gear and/or pto engaged when i do this.

sometimes i need to troubleshoot an implement, front or rear, need the pto on for this. rear, yea, there is a work around, but what about when i need to check the auger operation on my front blower?

99% of the time, the seat switch is fine, but there are times when it just doesn't work.

Standing up, eh? That's when you'll fall off and have most need for that seat switch!
I'm pretty sure you know I mow with the loader installed and the bucket lip about 10" (give or take) off the ground...that's my "cow catcher".
And, when you're troubeshooting a running implement...maybe a helper would be handy. I don't know the percentage, but I'll guess it's over 50% of accidents are folks working alone...and someone goes looking for them when they don't come home when expected.
Just my 2 cents...

the good thing is, if i need to stand up to watch for things, i'm usually going pretty slow anyway in case i actually hit something.

sure, it is 'unsafe'...but so is just about anything when you are careless (like crossing the street). i always say...i've never gotten hurt doing something smart! i also say...you can't protect idiots from their own stupidity, no matter how many safety devices you engineer into something. safety devices can help protect you from your stupidity (and carelessness)...they also make you 'dependent' on them which can cause you to do dumb things thinking the safety device will protect you. i just stay as alert as possible when working this way.

ok, enough of my anti-safety rants.

Another time I "dislike" the safety switch is when using the front end loader. When I lean over to one side or the other to see the edge of the bucket the engine dies. On the other hand I know one person who was killed and another who lost a leg because they fell off of their tractor.

It's one of those damned if you do and damned if you don't. As much as I hate the **** lawyer switch I will not disable it. In a past life (before CUT) I had a JD 320 lawnmower and I disabled that switch with a piece of foam as soon as I bought it. But over 2000 lbs and nasty things often hanging off of a 3ph give me pause.

i know what you mean, happens to me too...probably worse for me since i only weigh 150lbs...hard enough to keep it engaged while sitting in it properly, let alone leaning.

When I disconnected the seat switch on the JD mower I told wifey it was because she didn't weigh enough to keep the machine running. :D

...Oh come on, a little white lie never hurt.

When I got my new 2010 4320 tractor last year the seat switch did not work. Didn't pay much attention to it until a few months later when I flipped the seat up and bingo there was a jumper across the contacts of the unplugged connector. Pulled the jumper and plugged the two connectors and seat switch worked as designed ever since. The tractor only had 0.8 hrs on the meter when I first got it. Suspect either the dealer or Deere manuf installed the jumper to troubleshoot a problem and forgot to pull it. For my use I think it is best to leave the jumper off.

I got a good scare when I was doing about 10 mph down the road and fumbled in my pocket for something and nearly got gut punched by the wheel. The tires locking up hard at that speed left a pretty good divot in my gravel drive to...

when i was test driving my 4300, i thought it had a problem because the engine kept wanting to cut out, but then it would recover. i kept thinking WHAT is wrong with this thing?! then i realized that it only happened when i hit a bump, and my scrawny 150lbs was bouncing off the seat. this was solved by adjusting the tension in the seat.
