Get off the seat---engine stops

What I do on my 4010 is use a tension strap to secure the back of the seat. Run the tension strap across the seat back from both sides of the ROPS. I use my power takeoff on the chipper/shredder A LOT in the winter this way.

My 4010 also has a button you can pull up with the seat folded 90 degrees forward, but it was designed (by some silly lawyers; no doubt) not to work on the 4010. I used a jumper wire for a while to make this button work, but somehow the jumper wire ceased to work; so, I went back to using the tension strap.

You should have it in neutral with the parking brake on whether it requires it or not.

Ralph, I'm with you on this one. I have an additional comment on the tension strap. I was not able to apply enough pressure just with the tension strap so I added a come-along wrapped underneath the tractor. I was then able to apply enough pressure to actually bend the metal support of the seat entirely around the transmission housing. Believe me, every wire in that general vicinity was making contact then. The seat is not as comfortable now but that's beside the point. The PTO is running - full time.
The lights are doing strange things but as soon as I can locate the fuse box I'll rip it out and solve that problem.
Hope this helps.

Tension straps or jumper wires or come a longs? Really? It is a very simple procedure to have the PTO run while off the seat.

Don't start this "doing it right" crap!!!!

I think we were rednecks first ;-) Originally a part of Massachusetts we were on of the original 13 colonies. Besides. I have live in Kentucky. Our rednecks are, shall we say, more rednecky! BTW I have also lived in Alabama. They win,.... no contest.

Danny---you nailed it.

In my defense I have to explain. Last week we moved, lock stock and barrel plus a brand new never-been-fired-up DR PTO-powered wood chipper. We had help packing and moving. Meaning---we don't know where a lot of stuff ended up, including my John Deere owner's manuals.

I followed the instructions that you so helpfully provided, and that worked a treat. I reduced a brush pile to about ten gallons of mulch-sized chips.

Boiled down, you have to set the parking brake, shift to Neutral, select Rear PTO, engage the PTO, and then you can climb down out of the seat.

Thanks a million,

Art

Or you could add a toggle switch to bypass the lawyer switch at will, which is what I did so I could use my 3PH sprayer's hose reel.

The wiring diagram of how I did it is attached.

Please note...Making modifications such as this and using the PTO with the safety interlocks disabled is entirely your decision. I take no responsibility for any machine and/or property damage, nor do I take responsibility for any injuries or death that may result.

there are alot of times that the seat switch is a pain. i often like to stand when i brush hog tall grass so i can watch for objects more easily...with the seat switch it dies when in gear and/or pto engaged when i do this.

sometimes i need to troubleshoot an implement, front or rear, need the pto on for this. rear, yea, there is a work around, but what about when i need to check the auger operation on my front blower?

99% of the time, the seat switch is fine, but there are times when it just doesn't work.
