Thank you everyone for the safety information and tips...

I sometimes have employee's that I'd like to be rid of,,, I might keep that pipe holder method in mind.

Of course I'm kinda twisted and might even try it on a friend, with a video cam going of course..... Se we could laugh about it after he cooled off and the hospital had stitched us up after the ensuing fist fight. ( I think it would be worth the sacrifice - then in years to come we could watch the video - drink a beer for 'good times sake'.... )))

not looking bad tom - far better that my first first ones

I took the pics with a sony 4.?? megapix / under decent light / and with the flash also.

Nothing special just point and click. Good light and/or flash means faster exposure time - less blur from shaking.....

i think that metal is 1/4 or 5/16.

As far as "my first welds"
I mean my first in around 30 years.

I did a small amount of work ( with the same exact welder) back in my early days..... In a galaxy far far away.....
I never learned how back then either, hopefully this go round I'll be more patient... To be honest these 4 welds all look better than any I recall making so many years ago....

ok just been doing more welding and i got some questions
i can get a nice weld on the top but have little pentration through to the other side how do i increase this? should i move the metal apart more? (butt welds) put the amps up? - use bigger rods? go slower? yell at it? talk sweetly to it??? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ask it?????? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
im using 2.5mm rods on 5mm metal with a 1mm gap and im using the yelling technique at the moment /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif (sorry but im a metric guy /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif)

Here are a few of my welds on this gray water tank holder. This first one, is one of my first welds, not real pretty. Not so great, but Tom, here you can see the difference in the spatter using Argon mix instead of the flux core.

is that with a arc or mig?
i was told that the look of the weld dont matter much its if its penetrated through that matters /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
may i ask what the tank is for - looks interesting

Mith,
That is with my Lincoln 135 Mig, with gas.

It is a holding tank for waste water under an RV. The old one had a 1 inch lip around the edge so you could just screw through the lip into the plywood bottom of the RV to hold the tank up. As you can see, this one didn't, but it did have that 3 inch inset so I came up with this bracket/frame to allow me to mount it via screws in the end brackets.
