GL 3240 Finish Mower size

So how big of a Finish Mower is everyone running on there 3240's? I am looking for some and have found several 6' and one 7.5'. I run a 6' bush hog with no problems on my land, I normally don't let things gets too tall before I mow. The same would go for the yard, not letting it get really high.

My place is not flat but not too steep, hilly I guess you would say. I am sure the 6' would work fine but if I could run the 7.5' that would be awesome. Just want to buy right the first time. The 7.5' is a woods RM 90. I read somewhere that that style of mower because of no gear box did not take as much horse power to run but I have no experience with finish mowers.

I ran a woods RM990 on my gl3130 and it did real good job, I now pull it with a gl4240 and it does a little better going up hill. I had a RM60 before and it used more HP then the RM990, for some reason the RM990 I could run it easier. I sure like my 990 and have had it for about 10 years and when it goes belly up there well be another 990 to take it's place. Keep in mine the RM990 is a heavy mower and when going up a hill you well know it's there, on the flats you don't even know it's there.

Like they say ... you can go Over-sized and just slow down... or you can buy the appropriate size... If you do go larger than you have HP... just remember, and have All operators remember you are over-sizing the attachment ..

What is the horsepower requirement for finish mowers per FT? I know rough cut mowers are 5HP per FT of cutter. I woudl think a finish mower would not require as much but I have been wrong before.

I think 4 hp. per foot would be a rule of thumb. I know my BX 2200 ran a 5' mower just fine-that was around 16 PTO hp.

You need half again More with a finish mower... uses about half more in fuel also...
