Again and again, if you want to find out the real news of what's going on in our country, you have to go to the British papers. Our media doesn't have any credibility anymore and is a total waste of time.

While the British were in the lead on Global Warming, their press is doing what ours is not. They are investigating all of it and coming up with story after story about the false science, the lies and the corruption. It's almost a joke now, but for some reason that I don't understand, there are still those who want to believe. I can't figure it out, but the numbers are turning and the polls are showing that its no longer a real concern for those of us who have been fightint it over the past decade.

Here's another story that just adds to the absurdity of Man Made Global Warming.

World may not be warming, say scientists - Times Online

Just one paragraph from the article;

典he temperature records cannot be relied on as indicators of global change, said John Christy, professor of atmospheric science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a former lead author on the IPCC.

Living downwind from a solar panel, wind generator or geothermal power plant beats downwind from a coal, natural gas or nuclear generating plant. I don't believe our foreign policy has been influenced by our demand for wind and sun! Energy conservation reduces the need for more power plants. Reducing our demand for energy does not mean a lower standard of living. I predict that whether I get 9mpg or 40mpg to travel has nothing to do with happiness. (might have something to do with testosterone level) The solar panels and my small wind generators have produced 100% of my power for nearly a month (often in winter I need to run a generator every few days-8hp honda) Kick the habit - its not that bad. Its not anti-American to conserve.

For those who think ethonal is the answer, keep in mind that it takes more oil to produce it then it creates if usable fuel. It requires massive amounts of tax dollars to operate and create fuel from corn or any other plant product. If the government, and Tom Daschel is the lead lobbiest for this, was not involved, it would disapear because it's such a huge cash cow without any way to support itself.

Consider the fule to grow the crops and get them to the refinery. Then consider the fuel and WATER that it takes to turn that corn into fuel, and when it's all said and done, you have used more fuel making it then you get. It's a sum loss. Add to that all the water that it takes to create the fuel, and that it now has to be cleaned up from all the chemicals that are added to it, and now we're wasting oil to create ethonal, but we're also destroying the environment.

To top it off, ethonal doesn't burn as well as gasoline, so we get fewer miles per gallon using it. There is no savings at the pump because you have to fuel up more often.

Ethonal symbolized all that is wrong with government involvement. It is corrupt to the highest levels and the only people benifiting from it are those pushing it.

The same is true with solar and wind energy. Both cost more to operate than they generate. Both are dependent on tax dollars to exist. Take out the government money, and they all go bankrupt.

There is proven technology that works. It can be improved, and it has been improved. Wasting time on things that do not work with the hope that they will work one of these days is just foolish. If the technology becomes available that does what everone wants it to do, then we should use it. I'm even for government money going into the research to get these things to the point that they make sense. But to spend money on them now is only helping out the companies that sell them, and operate them. It discourages improvement and advancement.

Phil Jones is one of the big names in Global Warming. He might even be the biggest name in it after Al Gore. His research and position are a big part of what is used to support Man Made Global Warming and Climate Change.

In the British Newspaper, The Mail, he has now admitted to not being able to find his records with the data to support global warming.

It says;

"Professor Jones also conceded the possibility that the world was warmer in medieval times than now – suggesting global warming may not be a man-made phenomenon.
And he said that for the past 15 years there has been no ‘statistically significant’ warming."

The British are comming, the British are comming. I wonder what the British paper said during the revolution?

1) Much of the push for corn based ethanol was pushed by lobbyists from companies and states whose economies would benefit. I agree - corn based ethanol is a loser.

2) There can be a net gain with ethanol from other low tech plants.

3) Blanket statements about solar/wind are all relative to the true cost of fossil fuel usage. Anyone who believes that none of our $900 billion dollar annual defense costs are not partially a result of keeping the oil flowing has their head in the sand IMHO. If we also consider some negative pollution issues it adds to the cost. Green house gases are whole separate issue. If you consider the long range costs of our oil consumption the payback on solar/wind are reasonable. (Its possible that US soldiers have died to keep the oil flowing)

4) This AM while listening to PBS the report is that China is reluctant to put more sanctions on Iran (nuclear issues) because they are concerned that there will be a disruption of their oil supply. Does this desire ever effect the decisions of our government?

The more efficient we can become the better.

I agree Loren, corn based ethanol has considerable downsides but I also wouldn't discount the benefits of our experiences with employing ethanol as a motor fuel at the current scale either. And my understanding is that biomass can potentially have a significant role in home heating and power generation as well.

Eddie, I'd also add that government seed money in the form of basic research and development is responsible for much of the innovation edge we still enjoy in the global economy. Consider, we might not be enjoying these chats otherwise. :D:D

Energy Independence = National sovereignty and Security. What is so hard to understand about that?

The reason we are locked into an oil and coal based economy is because of the incredible power of the energy lobby. If the true cost of protecting the oil fields in the Middle East were factored into the cost of a gallon of gasoline the cost would be so high that we would have moved onto other sources years ago.The great industrialist of the 20th century were talking about alternative energy 100 years ago.
