Contrary to the opinion of some Ludites there are some scientists doing real research into climate change. Scientists who are not prostitutes for their money source.

Carbon dioxide is 'driving fish crazy'
Posted: 20 Jan 2012 03:42 PM PST
Rising human carbon dioxide emissions may be affecting the brains and central nervous system of sea fishes with serious consequences for their survival, an international scientific team has found. Carbon dioxide concentrations predicted to occur in the ocean by the end of this century will interfere with fishes' ability to hear, smell, turn and evade predators, says a professor.

Ecologists gain insight into the likely consequences of global warming

A new insight into the impact that warmer temperatures could have across the world has been uncovered by scientists.

Biodiversity crisis is worse than climate change, experts say
Posted: 19 Jan 2012 10:03 PM PST
Biodiversity is declining rapidly throughout the world. The challenges of conserving the world's species are perhaps even larger than mitigating the negative effects of global climate change, experts say.

Major study of ocean acidification helps scientists evaluate effects of atmospheric carbon dioxide on marine life
Posted: 23 Jan 2012 01:33 PM PST
Might a penguin's next meal be affected by the exhaust from your tailpipe? The answer may be yes, when you add your exhaust fumes to the total amount of carbon dioxide lofted into the atmosphere by humans since the industrial revolution. One-third of that carbon dioxide is absorbed by the world's oceans, making them more acidic and affecting marine life.

Injecting sulfate particles into stratosphere won't fully offset climate change
Posted: 25 Jan 2012 11:22 AM PST
New research demonstrates that one suggested method of geoengineering the atmosphere to deal with climate change, injecting sulfate particles into the stratosphere, probably would have limited success.

Turtles' mating habits protect against effects of climate change
Posted: 24 Jan 2012 05:01 PM PST
The mating habits of marine turtles may help to protect them against the effects of climate change. The study shows how the mating patterns of a population of endangered green turtles may be helping them deal with the fact that global warming is leading to a disproportionate number of females being born.

Can the economy bear what oil prices have in store?

The economic pain of a flattening oil supply will trump the environment as a reason to curb the use of fossil fuels, say scientists.

Yesterday on my way to work at 6:45 the temperature was 72*. On my way home at 3:45 it was 82*. Now I know I live in a desert area, but this is very ridiculous!

The ice has been receding for 14 thousand years, what makes everyone think its something new caused by man. My god 10 thousand feet of ice that covered over most of North America has melted, what's left is almost not worth talking about compared to what was 14 thousand years ago. I wouldn't be suprised if all the ice in the northern hemisphere is gone in another 1000 years. Who cares, warm is good, cold is bad. But man causing any clime change, now you are talking aluminum foil crowd now.

This thread is 6 years old? And the belief in manmade global warming is still alive and well and driving economic mayhem (Solyndra, et al).

But here is the test for the legitimacy of manmade global warming as a scientific entity:

Global warming is ALWAYS described in terms of harm. There are no projections of the good that will come from it. None! It is not logically or scientifically possible that climate change, of whatever sort, will have no effects that we humans see as positive. The fact that global warming is always portrayed and projected as a pure disaster is all the proof you need that the idea is being driven by ideologues, anarchists and politicians. End of story.

Let me just add to this in asking one very simple question. What is the ideal temperature that we are supposed to be at? Are we there right now? Are we supposed to cool the planet a few degrees and be colder?

I'm at a loss as to what the problem is since nobody has been able toe explain when we where at the perfect temperature and what it was. Obviously, since they feel the planet is warming and it's too hot now, what do they want us to go back to?

Last year, it seemed that we almost had no winter; stayed warm and dry (drought conditions) all winter. Years like that will make you a believer in global warming, but then we have weather like the present; 81 degrees yesterday afternoon and 31 this morning. Just over 2" of rain since dark last night; the most rain I've seen from one spell in a long time, and I didn't empty my rain gauge because it's partially frozen.:(

Bird, you posted this on November 30th, 2006 and it sounds like you are describing the exact same weather that we are having right now!!!!

Wow! Pat, are you sure you have your terms correct? Luddites are people who fear technology and change. That seems to fit many in the green crowd more than those who embrace technology and improving the world's standard of living. I'm not taking sides here, just trying to keep a proper definition of terms.:confused2:

Eddie makes a good point. What is the right temperature? The problem is how we live and where we live. A huge portion of the world's population lives on the coast. And in the last few decades that has gone up exponentially. The global coastlines are susceptible to dramatic weather events and tidal variations regardless of what the climate trend is. With global warming, regardless of the cause, there may be more hurricanes, rising tides etc.

An Atlantic Monthly (left leaning) article years ago suggested that the problem was population growth on the coastlines. It conceded that the climate was changing and even that we might be causing it. But it also admitted that to provide for a growing, increasingly modern population that there was virtually no chance that we could have any impact on climate change. And yet, you hear no one suggesting that the nations of the world try to change WHERE people are living. Why not? Yes, it is preposterous but is it any more preposterous than thinking windmills, hybrid cars and eating less beef will change the global (cosmic) thermostat?
