I just ran out of my life time supply of wood glue./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif I went to the hardware store and could not find the same stuff. I have been using a tan powder that mixes with water. It machines well, won't gumm up blades, takes stain and is quite water resistant. Very strong and cleans up with water. Has the color of a "sugar daddy" when dry. I think it was made by Marine Tex. I don't care for the white and yellow "Elmers" type glues because they don't take stain and I always miss a spot or two when I clean up. They also are have poor water resistance. I also don't care much for the two part resorcinal glue. I am building cabinets for a boat and bookcases for the house.

I know there are quite a few woodworkers on this board and I could sure use some advise on a good glue.

Thanks in advance Al

Gosh, Al, your tan powder glue sounds like the stuff I used in woodworking shop in junior high school; didn't know if it was still made and haven't seen or used any of it in well over 45 years./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif But it really was great stuff.

Sounds like you're talking about Weldwood Glue. Great stuff. I used it for many, many years, but haven't shopped for it lately. I'm with you -- hope it's still around. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Bird,
My only purchase was about 25 years ago (good shelflife /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif). I bought a 5 gallon bucket. I think it may have been put on the edangered species list or something. I think Washington plays Texas tonight. (I'll take Texas)

Here'a a link to <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.dap.com/retail/retail_detail.cfm?subcatid=103&catid=28&prodhdrid=42>Weldwood Glue</A>. They're owned by DAP.

You win, Mike! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I was trying to post the same link when TBN went into labor pains for its re-birth. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Harv,

I got caught too! I got the link at the DAP site in one window, switched back to TBN and thought my link went dead. Then I actually read the message at the top and saw the upgrade was going on. So, I went and picked my daughter up at the local ski slope (we live 10 minutes away), came back and TBN was back up and improved.

Ron,
Never heard of them, so I did a search and nice lead, thanks. I didn't see a description of the glue I like, but did find a place to buy "hide glue", "PVA glue".
I don't have a clue what they are, where is GlueGuy when you need him?/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Harv and Mike,
Thanks for the leads. Sounds like the same stuff. I shall return to the market as an informed buyer and check it out. "Urea Formaldehyde" sure sounds like if it isn't banned it soon will be. If it's the right stuff I'll get another lifetime supply, shouldn't take as much this time around./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
