The light duty Ram 1500 and Ford F150 with the V6 3.0 liter diesels and the GM with the inline 6 diesel,
are all looking for the same market share the half ton pickups with towing capabilities that are unimaginable compared to just 10 years ago,
and while getting very good mileage under emission standards that to my mind are extremely unrealistic and are without a doubt not conductive to
hard work and long life.
I enjoy my little V6 diesel but I have to wonder what it could accomplish with a more reasonable emission standard to meet.
I get a consistent 22 mpg winter and 24-26 mpg summer with my overall driving rural roads and hills at times some idling for heat or AC.
I have gotten 26-28 mpg on trips and did see 29 mpg one day sight seeing at 30 to 45 mph for 6 hours.
With more reasonable emissions I do believe it would accomplish 30 mpg overall.
As a comparison my Dakota was a 16 mpg overall truck, my older Ford F150's did 14-16 mpg when not being worked.
My 3/4 tons have been 10-12 mpg normal and 4-8 working hard.
I would like to see a some what simple truck but I do want AC, power windows and locks.
