I'll bet Chrysler Financial owns it, and that they are a separate company. If Chrysler the car maker declares bankruptcy, it does not necessarily follow that Chrysler Financial is going to be part of the court proceedings, or that they will renegotiate your contract. The corporate world is very good about protecting their interests. Our interests, not so good.

On the bank loans themselves, Ford is unique in that they own their own finance company; Ford Motor Credit Co. GM only owns 49% of it's arm, GMAC Financial Services and Cerberus Capital Mgt. LP owns the other 51%. Cerberus also controls Chrysler Credit/Chrysler Financial. The Service Contract part of these companies are a bit more confusing to explain, but they are separate from the actual companies themselves. Heck, for possibly the first time in history it may be safer to have a service contract on your vehicle from one of the larger and extremely financially sound service contract companies. But, there again, that is a minefield as well. Some of those that appear strong and claim they are strong are working desperately behind the scenes to get capital, find a buyer, or contemplating going under. Because of CA's I can't make any list here online. If you have an aftermarket vehicle service contract and want to know if it is a strong one, feel free to PM me and I'll tell you what I can.

Oh boy, GM stock was $2.75 a bit earlier when I looked and Ford was $1.75. :(

The auto manufacturers use many of the same suppliers and this gives them great price leveraging on the huge volumes they buy globally. But if we lose one of these manufacturers it would drive the prices up on many of the purchased parts for the other players in turn driving up the prices of vehicles to the consumers in an already recessed economy. If you are a supplier and suddenly lose 30% of your orders you would have no choice but to raise prices and layoff personnel. You would lose special pricing you get from your raw material suppliers and shippers. And if you can't re-negotiate your contracts you go under

The layoffs at the assembly plants would be enormous and the trickle down effect would be crippling. From the trucking and supply chain industry all the way down to the stop and rob that the employees go for gas and coffee

The whole thing would be devastating to the global economy even when you think it can't get much worse than it already is.

It really worries me to see what is going on in the global economy right now.
I hope it starts turning around soon. But the analysts here tell us that 09 may not be much better than 08.. I hope they are getting paid a lot of money to be wrong!!!

I deal with an extended wrnty company every day, they do almost a million a day in claims. When people stop buying cars they stop buying extended wrnty's so how long before their pockets are empty also? I work for a gm dealer that outsells most in our area and right now they cant sell a dang thing, service is drying up real fast also. Another thing to notice is i do not see any big rebates or "great offers right now from any of the big 3 on trucks, so how bad are things really?

one last note;
I would like to thank all you buyers of toyota and nissan trucks, with each one you have bought the asain owners of those companies get richer. Watching the american companies go under must make you feel proud to be an american. Yes yours are "built" here and the american units have parts from all over the world and are built in other parts of the world but at the end of the day some guy named Bob or Frank got some more money to spend on his new house from the sale of that ford, chev, or dodge truck. The asian market trucks put a few more yen in Yakahomimoto's pocket.

I thank you, your local grocery store thanks you, the guy at the parts store thanks and the doors are still open at wallmart right now

This is why I will never buy anything but the big 3.
You would never catch a Japanese car or truck in my garage.
If someone gave me a brand new Turdra I would be out the very next day seeing who will take it on trade for a new GM or Ford truck.

Just got this in my e-mail

You made the right choice when you put your confidence in General Motors, and we appreciate your past support. I want to assure you that we are making our best vehicles ever, and we have exciting plans for the future. But we need your help now. Simply put, we need you to join us to let Congress know that a bridge loan to help U.S. automakers also helps strengthen the U.S. economy and preserve millions of American jobs.

Despite what you may be hearing, we are not asking Congress for a bailout but rather a loan that will be repaid.

The U.S. economy is at a crossroads due to the worldwide credit crisis, and all Americans are feeling the effects of the worst economic downturn in 75 years. Despite our successful efforts to restructure, reduce costs and enhance liquidity, U.S. auto sales rely on access to credit, which is all but frozen through traditional channels.

The consequences of the domestic auto industry collapsing would far exceed the $25 billion loan needed to bridge the current crisis. According to a recent study by the Center for Automotive Research:

One in 10 American jobs depends on U.S. automakers
Nearly 3 million jobs are at immediate risk
U.S. personal income could be reduced by $150 billion
The tax revenue lost over 3 years would be more than $156 billion

Discussions are now underway in Washington, D.C., concerning loans to support U.S. carmakers. I am asking for your support in this vital effort by contacting your state representatives.

Please take a few minutes to go to www.gmfactsandfiction.com, where we have made it easy for you to contact your U.S. senators and representatives. Just click on the "I'm a Concerned American" link under the "Mobilize Now" section, and enter your name and ZIP code to send a personalized e-mail stating your support for the U.S. automotive industry.

Let me assure you that General Motors has made dramatic improvements over the last 10 years. In fact, we are leading the industry with award-winning vehicles like the Chevrolet Malibu, Cadillac CTS, Buick Enclave, Pontiac G8, GMC Acadia, Chevy Tahoe Hybrid, Saturn AURA and more. We offer 18 models with an EPA estimated 30 MPG highway or better more than Toyota or Honda. GM has 6 hybrids in market and 3 more by mid-2009. GM has closed the quality gap with the imports, and today we are putting our best quality vehicles on the road.

Please share this information with friends and family using the link on the site.

Thank you for helping keep our economy viable.

Sincerely,

I'll be looking for my letter since I own an '07 GMC truck and just bought a '08 Chevy Tahoe LTZ 4 weeks ago. We're trying to do our part to help. My sister & her husband are looking at an '08 Tahoe, too.

i would LOVE to buy a new Silverado or Sierra 4x4 but noone wants to deal. they have the red tag price, but to me that's the price the vehicle should have been all along. i have always owned a Chevrolet, but if there's one thing all automakers need to learn it's that vehicles these days are WAY overpriced.

I'd love to nail a GMC 5500 4x4 DMAX/Ally with an exhaust brake right now. What a sweet little rig they are. Sorry for getting off topic.

I never understood the "red tag" event, true im in service and dont deal with sales to much but that price seems like the same prices with the current rebates. I think when they do employee pricing the cost is slightly less than current.

If you dont know this all ready and are looking for a good deal on a new unit then wait, closer to the end of the year things go a little closer to panic mode and the best deals are to be had. Also to make your best deal always go on the last day of the month, 90% of the dealers will do anything to move more units on that day. I have watched tade ins go for thousands more than they should and new units get 10k off on those days. As you can imagine the last day of the year is a heck of a day to buy a new ride and that day is getting close.

Lets hope this econ gets turned around or we will all be back to the farm!!!
