GM Truck Warranty

This car is a joke. Come on, 45K for a electric car. Just buy a 15K Kia or Civic and get 35-40 MPG and save your 30K for beer and gas.

Chris

You nailed 50% of what the guys with the crystal balls (oops, that sounds bad :D) say is the problem with electric cars right now. First, like you said, they are way too expensive and second, they just don't have the battery technology where it needs to be yet. Supposedly if they get past those two hurdles we'll be driving electric cars. I guess that makes sense. I'm not going to fork out a bunch of extra money just to have an electric car. It's going to have to make sense monetarily for me. Also, it's going to have to be able to go more than 40 or 50 miles on a charge.

Their goal is to have 15% of the people buying electric cars for "grocery getters" or for those who only commute a relatively short distance to and from work each day. If the price is right, I can see people in those areas going electric. But, hey, electric could be like the Betamax if hydrogen cars are ever made possible. One company is working towards making cars run on their own tiny nuclear reactors! What do I know? Maybe they will have our "answer".

Electric cars are nothing new, they've been around since the early 1900's.

Yeah, and you'd think they'd have them perfected by now, wouldn't you. I guess it's not been a top priority until recently.

They WILL almost certainly go under, if not this time around maybe the next time around, or the one after that.

Since the Chryco bail out Detroit hasn't changed THAT MUCH - OK, so they re-badged some Mitsubishi vehicles, did the K cars and mini vans, the Intrepid wasn't too bad.

They will fail because their focus is margin and the easiest way to make margin is on bigger and bigger vehicles option encumbered and price loaded with "packages".

Quality ? We're no worse than each other.
Price ? We're within a few bucks of each other.
Service ? We've been here for 100 years. (so what ?)
A_T_T_I_T_U_D_E !!!
Hardly the formula for success.

Cadillac's quality goal is to EQUAL Toyota.
Not exceed, again just to be no worse than.

Which holds true for ALL automakers, not just domestics. I don't see Toyota, Nissan, etc. doing anything mind boggling in electric car development and they are the media darling of the world.

True, but they have all taken it in the shorts with their stock value as well. Since Honda has no true pickup and has always had their fleet MPG is rating really high, I would have thought that they would have been hit the least. Well, they're down over 30% in the last couple of months. I suppose that's far better than GM and Ford, but still, it's a huge hit. As I mentioned earlier, I have this amazing talent to pick stocks that are destined to tank.

I think a lot of individual companies' stock decline is due to the general decline in worldwide market confidence.

The company I work for (the Bomber) is performing well from a sales and manufacturing perspective with record backlogs and improving profit margins in both commercial aircraft and transportation (rail) divisions, but the stock is being pulled down regardless. It is off about 60 percent from 4 months ago. Frustrating.

Honda's stock may be off, but they 're assembly plants may be better prepared to cope with shifting demand than the big three.

The Alliston Ont. plant has the flexibility to shift output relatively easy (I'm told by a friend who works there). Production of Ridgelines and Acura MDXs are in the tank, but increased production on Civics is taking up the slack.

Also, when a line is re-tooling, plant workers aren't sent home with full pay, but are re-assigned other work.

Will you please print a list of your PORKfollia so that we can avoid them and get some money making stock picks so we can get the street back going---Thanks in advance for the money making tips!:D:D:)

You compare a pretty old Kia or Civic with a new electric car with a warranty and no repairs needed by the customer for probably 5 years. Pretty unbalanced comparison.
