I don't even have to test drive one to tell you it's 10 time better then any gator 6x4 too!

yea them 700's are nice but the john deere does have a reliable machine. i have about 1k maybe a little over for a down payment . i might just put my hpx out to the road and try and see what happens .they will just have to see a semi clean machine or dirty.

I have either owned or run a gator 6x4, rhino, ranger 500, 700, rtv 900 and now the rtv100. This new rtv blows them all away for work. I clicked 8 hours on it and can't get enough of it. The heater is so good in it. Plus its quiet. The 900 had the factory/curtis cab with a heater and it stunk. If you can swing it and want a workhorse, go with the 1100.

I think one thing that we must remember, especially when carrying on a Kubota v. JD debate on UTV's is what our intended owner is planning to do with the machine. Tommy lives in Louisiana and has a lot of soft, swampy terrain. A heavy machine with limited wheel travel, such as the Kubota, would likely not serve his needs best. The RTV is a very nice machine with features that are most-appealing. I looked at one myself but for where I live I felt it would have some off-road liability. I am frequently in situations where even a fair amount of travel is "not enough" and where an open front diff just can't cut it. If I did not have the specific challenges, I suspect I would own a Kubota RTV, even though in tractors I prefer JD equipment. I thought hard about the Polaris 700, but was unimpressed in the build quality of the few specific examples I tested. I also, admittedly, was swayed by watching the XUV pull one through the field at the JD product intro a year ago. Maybe it was rigged, but I still was impressed. In short, Tommy probably is best served by going back with JD if he wishes. The XUV is a tough machine to beat for his terrain and daily tasks and this takes nothing away from the other offerings. The XUV is not the fastest, but it is pretty fast, and it does not have all the nice standard features of the Kubota nor the all-out speed of the Polaris, but it is solidly competitive and the locking front diff and expansive wheel travel and nice fit and finish make it a nice option.

I should note that I have nothing against Polaris--I hope no posters feel I am unfair to that brand with regard to "build quality." I have personally owned three Polaris ATV's and bought my father one as well. I have gotten out of the ATV thing, but my dad still has his. It has given him solid service and he uses it daily and does not take care of it. So, when I mention build quality in the specific examples I tested of the Ranger, please know it comes from one who has owned and used Polaris products for many years now and may have been related to the examples I saw, not the brand in general. I felt I should make that disclaimer.

if i wasn't going in some of the places i go the rtv would be nice but man that thing weighs what 2k . it's nice but i can't afford something like it and i think it would be alittle over kill for me although that heater would be nice . man them bones get to hurtin where they cut on me plus my lower back ain't all that good too.

If you go with the diesel XUV, the engine heat which radiates into the seat area when the diesel is warmed up and running is a nice heater. Not RTV 1100 nice, but the cockpit ambient temperature is probably 5-10 degrees warmer than the air temp.

Tommy I'd really look into fabbing up a make shift cab for cold months. Use your little coleman heater and maybe buy another. That combined with the engine heat should keep things nice in LA winters. Of course if you can go for the curtis or JD heater that would solve everything.

I've thought about getting the curtis heater myself and just using it without a cab. I bet it would do some good, about like a heater in a convertable. I can feel the heat coming from the engine when the radiator fan blows but it's a short lived luxury since it hardly needs the fan in the winter.

no clutch enclosure for the diesel xuv yet. although didn't they say they was in the prosess of making one?

Yes, but that was a year ago. lol. They're still working on it they say but no word as of yet. Talk to your dealer and get them to hussle JD. Mine knows he has a sale once they come out with one. Maybe if JD realizes there really is a large market for such a thing they will pour more resources into it.
