To my knowledge they aren't out. If I recall correctly they are going to be right around the new year. I'd probably wait it out. But then again I'm not sure when they will come out. I'm sure skip will know.

Tommy: Make sure to spring for the $500 for the dump unit. It will dump hundreds of pounds without straining. I recently moved about 20 cubic yards of loose fill with it. I used my FEL to dump 2 full buckets into the Gator. The FEL bucket is 60" wide and the Gator is narrower, so I lost some dirt with each dumpload. I probably had 450-700# per gator load. My wife then drove it up a 20 degree hill about 100' and then dumped the dirt by herself into the hole next to the house so we could backfill against the foundation. After she got used to it, we could do a load round trip in under 10 minutes (loading-traveling-dumping).

That $500 expense for the dump bed was more than earned this past weekend.

To All,

My 2008 JD dealer catalog (I am not a dealer--just get the book) shows NO clutch enclosure option for the diesel. It is a packaging issue with the engine and I do not see how it can be done. I know for those truly off-roading and running underwater for long periods of time it is a necessity, but unless one is doing this GO DIESEL. I have had both and the diesel is worth every penny of the price difference. It pulls like a mule and is more quiet when running under a load than the gas (not idling). My dealer buddy does not like the diesel as much due to the price increase and the noisy idle, but he has sold 3:1 diesel to gas XUV's and he sells them by the truckload. I believe I have converted him enough that now he recommends them more-strongly. The point here is JD, like any other money-making company, is not going to make wholesale changes or even do many simple upgrades if they are moving the metal. I do not get the impression they are going to alter the diesel model much until the sales drop, then we might see the clutch enclosure. They are though offering an improved lineup of attachments for both the gas and diesel models. I had a gas one for one month, and traded for the diesel. There is no looking back on this one. I wish JD would consider increasing the gasoline HP to 30 to better equate to the diesel model; they already are putting a 29 hp Kawasaki twin in the top gas ZTR for 2008 so it does not seem so hard.

Tommy, I don't know. What I do know is this whole "RTV IS THE ONLY WAY!!!" is getting a might bit old...

Oh and Two Guns come to me with one good thing about having a heavy UTV and I'll give you a cookie. Fact: There isn't any. Lighter is better in every respect.

Two advantages to having a heavier machine that immediately come to mind:

An advantage in traction would go to the heavier vehicle in every condition except mud. Maybe it's because of the drought here, but I don't really worry about mud.

Tow something heavy and you'll enjoy the stability of heavier machine. Nothing like having your load push you around. I prefer the added weight on the wheels, especially when pulling a drag or various carts.

I don't see any UTV in danger of not getting enough traction because of weight or getting pushed around by their load. I don't know maybe it's just me and my love for nimble roadsters that makes me believe lightness is such a good thing...

I will chose the light vehicle every time.
I will make it heavy with my fridge and other needed accessories. :D
You can always add weight to a light vehicle.
