Gonna put a mid mower deck on my older BX

Use such a wonderful Kubota to cut grass with seems wrong to me. I own several Kubota for different tasks with none bring mowing.

Yeah, if you are trying to shave the grass off with the FEL, or clip the grass with a tiller. The tractor has implements for specific tasks. The MMM is one of them. Could we not say the same about drilling postholes, tilling, etc. with a Kubota?

The difference in cutting grass regularly with a thousand dollar mower vs 20k tractor is negligible. The same cannot said of rototilling, posthole drilling and most other tasks of tractors. Not to mention the royal pain of doing those other tasks with the mower deck on.

I find my BX does a better job than the last JD 200 Series I had, but to each his own, right? Guess it depends on all sorts of factors. My yard is bumpy and the shorter wheelbase JD left pie plates across my yard like UFO landing pads.
I gather you may live on large property or a farm because I don't find any issues with the MMM on while using other implements or loader. I could see, though, ground clearance issues if I was on uneven terrain. Subcompacts are kind of a compromise.

Some folks buy a BX with no snow blade, no loader assembly, and never use the 3 pt hitch. They buy the machine as a grass cutter. Period. If they have a few acres of grass to cut and the BX makes a good choice for them? None of my concern. Our nearby municipality buys a couple and uses them to cut grass on municipal properties in the summer and rigs them with front blades to push snow off city sidewalks and tight quartered areas wherever needed in winter. Each to their own. Kubota will set up a BX just about anyway you want it, for just about any purpose(s) and you can use it any way you wish. They'll take your money as they joyfully sell more sub-compact tractors than anyone else. Big K just smiles, smiles, smiles.

If I didn't have so many trees and things to mow around I would get rid of my ZTR and buy a MMM for my Massey. I think it makes a lot of sense to get the BX out of the barn and put it to work mowing.

My Massey sits in the barn so much I'm actually considering selling it; I know I will regret it and want another as soon as I do.

My BX-25 came with the 60" deck new in 2014. I mowed the yard when I first got it and took it off and has been in my building ever since. I have a dedicated mower all ready so I never used it after that.....JB.

I changed the oil on the BX today. The unit has been well maintained and always garage kept. It's worth, what? $9K to sell? I still need it for firewood in spring and fall and especially for winter snow pushing.

With low hours and perfect functionality, it makes no sense to me to get "new equipment-itis" nor even to buy another big box store lawn tractor for the grass. I'd rather use the BX and it has thousands of hours to give. So, putting a mowing deck on it, now that it doesn't have to work in the fields anymore, just makes the most sense to me, so that's what gonna happen.

Good thoughts, bp,
As much as I'd like an 80-series, I think I'm about done trading. I use my BX for as much as I can, and have even adapted my storage and projects to use the BX, with forks, storage racks, and such. It's my "go to" tool.

Wish mine looked that good. It looks brand new. I mow with mine and use the 60 inch deck. I kept a riding mower for a couple years after I got my BX but never used it.

Taking the deck off and isn’t hard, I describe it as awkward. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes, sometimes longer, getting the links lined up and the driveshaft connected being the hard part.

BX's make excellent finish mowers. The short wheels provide sharp turning and is easy on the turf. The power steering is nearly effortless and direction changes are as easy as a slight shift in foot pressure. Couple all that to a suspended mower deck that won't scalp when adjusted correctly and the question becomes why aren't you finish mowing with your tractor.....

As an fyi, the MMM can be locked in the highest position which then frees up the 3PH to be worked independently so one doesn't have to remove the MMM to do some ground engagement type tasks where clearance isn't an issue.

I've been finish mowing with a BX & 60" MMM for approx 16 seasons and I recommend to get the biggest mower that'll fit the tractor and around the various obstacles where you'll be mowing. Keep the spindles and U joints greased and the blades sharp and it'll mow all day long and ask for more LOL....
