At one time I decided that these were the best boots I could find for the money...Redwings aside.
I did not consider redwings because of there exorbitant price and even the best made boots can be cut with sharp steel...something my footwear was subject too, and I'd rather not not subject 200$ boots to that.
as you can see they are competitively priced.....

They better be for that price, the ones I priced were over 400$ per pair.
Personally I would perfer a lower boot without so many laces. Takes too long to get them on and off and they are restrictive to movement of the ankle. The break in with those boots is going to be a long time, you really need to have another pair to alternate until they get formed to your ankle.

Try something with a bullistic nylon(much light and more durable) finish instead of leather. My first pair lasted just over three years, still looked great but the sole were worn right out, they got to being unsafe as they slippery. The pair I have now are made by terra.

I have been doing plumbing since I was 15 years old. I am now 54.
Needless to say I have worn just about every boot known to man less Whites.
I can now say I have found the holy grail of "Ankle High" work boots.

Ankle High
Steel Toe
Steel Shank
Puncture Resistant
Waterproof (till they get old / broke down)
Speed Lace
Black
Scuff Resistant Rubber Toe Bumper.
Padded Achilles
Removable inner sole
NOT a Lug bottom.
COMFY from Day ONE!

If I were to complain I would complain about the bottoms
holding dirt fines.

These boots are so good I have I think 3 extra, brand
new pair, ready for when I wear the currents out and when I say
I wear out boots I mean it. GAWD I hope they do not stop
making them EVER. These boots kick donkey and I have proved it.

There indestrustable (well, I would tear up soild steel boots) but
really, there TOUGH. One review says a guys Rottie used it for
a chew toy and it survived! THAT is sayin' sumthin'!

One word; MICHELIN #XHY866 #140.99 (IF you find cheaper let me know)

Whatever you find , buy 2 pair. Don't wear one pair daily for a year. Give a day for the cushioning to recover, and for them to dry out. If you drive a truck vs standing then you may be able to get b with one pair. Your feet will feel the difference. Playa round with some of the new gel insoles. I stand at work , so I spend the $$ on quality shoes myself.

Depends on how serious your needs are. When I was a working forester, White's and Buffalo were the best; Buffalo is now out of business and the name is used by a German outfit. Westco (West Coast) were next. Danner and Redwings? Good for about one summer of working in the woods every day. I started with Redwings and by the end of the first summer they had stretched so much that on a side slope they would often twist out from under my heel. A guy on my crew had holes in his Danners at the end of the summer. First fire paycheck I got in 1975 went to Whites. I still have them, but I also bought another pair, caulked (the ones with the spikes on the bottom). Bought 2 pair of those so I could alternate day by day to let a wet pair dry out. White has rebuilt them about 3 times.

I wore red wings once. The "measured" fit was the worst fit boots i every worn. Should of taken them back but did not since work paid for them. I cant wear loggers, they make my back hurt? I use to wear them when prescribed burning, we walked miles and MILES those days. The angle it pitched you foward hurt my back. Plus the added weight tires me out more (those soles must weigh an extra 5oz a piece.). Traditional loggers with the big heal are designed for out west or steep slopes. there designed to face the hill and bring your foot back to a more level position. Here in rolling hills and flat land they were killers to me. And i am an inshape person, i was just out of college at that time and weighed about 200lb or less and was 6'2''.

have heard whits were a good boot. Nicks is also a cutom i have heard some guys like. Russel Moccasins is a custom made boot lots of guys i know as foresters buy the snake boots. I think there up to like $450-500 for a pair. Even when i was on my feet in the woods all day i still liked the chippewas i wore. But now im a lazy half office jocky forester.

I work in the oilfield down here and tried most brand of boots, redwings are absolutely the most durable, but are just to heavy. My company buys us a pair every year so I choose wolverines which don't last as long but are much more comfortable.

I wear the steel toe JD Schmidt (sp?), the TSC house brand. They've been good to me for about a year now.

+1 on White's better than WESCO and way better than Redwing, Danner, Carolina and Georgia

I wear my Wolverines about 8~10 hrs/day 5 days a week. they are 4years old now the last pair lasted about 5 and still have them only issue was/is I wear out the inside heal lining. If you use a bit of shoe polish and or the Wolverine mink oil stuff that helps to let them stay soft and water resistant. the latest pair is Multi-Shock that are wearing pretty good better than the previous pair. I bet I'll get 3 more years out of them. also I have some cowboy boots that are on their 3rd or 4th pair of soles NOCONA boots that at are deer skin and still as soft as can be. Hey are also polished regularly and just recently coated them with the wolverine mink oil stuff. They are way too soft for woods work but are great when getting out on the town. :)

 Like others getting right fit is hard for me need 2x WIDE or sometimes EEs depending.

Mink oil works if your walking through wet grass or in a rain to your truck but for folks who walk through wet bushes or ground, step in creeks or walk through ankle deep mud day in day out it does very little.

I use bees wax. It changes the color, makes the boots darker, but it works well and stays in the leather.
