Good Dealers?

My commendation is not to a dealer but to the company that builds/distributes the Rhino TW84 brush hog. After reading the posts on TBN about the need to check the slip clutch periodically, I became concerned about my TW84 lift-type that I have used with good results for ten yrs. It is built by Servis-Rhino. a member of the Alamo Group. I did not receive an operator's manual ten yrs. ago and to this point had not needed one. With the slipclutch issue in mind, I began surfing to find a way to get a manual. I found no URL that I was confident would address my need. I finally selected the one that looked the most likely to get my request to their Service Dept. To shorten this story; today a brown truck with a driver in short pants delivered a hard copy of the manual at no charge. Hats off to Servis-Rhino and the Alamo Group.

I second that! How nice to know one can rely on a MFG to actually take care of a problem like this for no charge and so quickly too. Thanks for the post. John

Great discussion on equipment dealers!

I just received my Summer 2004 copy of the BOBCAT "WORKSAVER" publication. One of the articles titled "Making Supplier Relationships Work" was authored by Roger Cook of "This Old House" and " Ask this Old House" fame. Regarding equipment dealers Roger states....

"Make no mistake - the dealer is key to any equipment purchase. Of course the name and reputation of the manufacturer is important, but you must be certain the dealer is going to be around to stand behind the product. If you need advice or a part, it doesn't matter who built the equipment. You need the local dealer's help. You don't want to have to call an 800 number."

Roger further states... "There's an old saying that I am reminded of when I think about my suppliers - 'a disaster on my part doesn't necessarily make an emergency on their part.' No matter how well you plan, there are times when you need something right away. It could be a load of sod or a part for your loader. If you have a good, honest relationship with a supplier, he will go out of his way to help. If not - if you always shop around for the lowest price - you may indeed face a disaster alone."

IMO, well put!

Very good post OrangeGuy. The dealer is very important when that time DOES come that you need him/her. Let's hope most of us don't need it too quickly! John

Cavalier Equipment in Ashland, VA. Very patient and helpful over multiple visits and calls. Great delivery service and first-day instruction. Responsive service (2 calls). In fact, on the last, the tech mowed half my lawn to make sure the problem wasn't going to recur! I've met the owner, several in sales, the counter folks, and several servicemen. Great staff all.

I have to say that my dealer ( smardts in Zelienople Pa ) has been great to deal with. I've had one problem ,and it was dealt with with 48 hrs. ( including pickup , repair ,and return ) . I also had them do the 50 hr service and add TNT at a later date . The mechanic allowed me to watch him do the service ,and explained what he was doing ,so that in future I'd be able to do it myself . My only complaint is I didn't get a free Hat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif John

Neither did I! I went in a week or so ago and you know what? They don't even carry them! Now I ask ya, how can a tractor dealer not sell hats? Can you imagine a Deere dealer, for example, not selling about 10 different versions?

I got 4 pens, 2 T-Shirts and NO hats from my NH dealer. Then again, the T-Shirts were size XXL (I wear a L), the pens were cheap promo pens, and I don't wear hats anyway.

I got 1 pen from my Ventrac dealer, and I think that was only because he accidently left it on my dinette table when we were filling out the paperwork.

The Kubota/Cub/White dealer hasn't given me anything at all. I've bought a White riding mower, a Cub GT and a Cub ZTR from him in addition to the B2910.

But I get great service from all of them so I'm not complaining.
