If you wanted a good grease gun, one that will work with tough zerks that put up a bit of struggle, what would you get? I need one with a fixed neck and a long handle (no pistol grips). I have tried the cheaper options from all the local places, Atwoods, Harbor Freight, WalMart, TSC, etc. I expect to spend ~$60 but, can go a bit higher if there is good reason. On the other hand, if what I want is available cheaper, I'm certainly receptive.

I live in East Texas and grew up in Central Oklahoma so, retail locations along the Interstates are fair game but, I'm expecting to mail order something.

TIA,
Sid

I've had good experiences with Lincoln brand grease guns but am now using a Milwaukee M18 with a LockNLube.

- To get a good Grease Gun, you WILL need to spend more than $60 !

Depending on the amount of greasing you have to do, I do my own vehicles, included a car, a truck and tractor... and a few smaller things requiring grease.

I purchased a DeWalt Battery Operated Grease Gun; it is powerful, gets grease in where you would think it wouldn't; I added a Lock-n-Lube Grease head to hold to the Fittings, best thing I ever did.

It isn't the lightest gun out there but it is the best one I have ever used, the hose on the gun isn't as long as I would like but it can be replaced as I did the head.

It gets the job done !

Lock-N-Lube sell a foot pumped grease gun... a little too much grease for my needs and a little too expensive; more than the DeWalt !

Good Luck on your search, post up what you find !

DeWalt 20V ($124)
I bought a new Lincoln pneumatic, and threw it away.

Go with a Alemite if you want a lever gun. One of their guns is a high pressure unit pushing 15,000lbs. I have a old unit that I can switch the linkage from high pressure to high volume.

I use Lincoln 1147 manual grease guns (lever with hose). The 1148 is the same gun but with a fixed neck. The Alemite A500 is also well regarded. Both are 10,000psi rated guns and are very affordable in the $30 range. I use the Lincoln and put 20 or so tubes through it a year, durability has not been an issue for me with it. I mostly grease equipment so high volume is not needed, higher pressure would be nice, but it would probably just cause me to squirt more grease all over....

The Alemite 6268-2 is the 15K unit that Ruffdog refers to, its currently $720.50 on Amazon.
The Alemite 1056-SE4 is the dual high pressure / high volume unit and is $112.39 on Amazon.

Ryobi has worked great for me so far.

All my cordless tools are Dewalt so I bought an 18v grease gun. Makes maintenance intervals a pleasure.

I have a Lincoln pneumatic hand held I got of an amazon warehouse damaged box deal for 50-ish bucks. Works great and much needed when owning a backhoe.

Yep, my friends track-hoe has a ton of zerks needing to be greased regularly. The ones under the cab for the pivot take a huge amount of great too!

I really like my G-Gun (Amazon link). G-Gun is made by the lock-n-lube people, so the G-Gun comes with a lock-n-lube. I have a video review of the G-Gun as well.

Those foot-operated bulk grease canister options look awesome. I'm not sure I'm ready to dump $200~$300 on one today but, I can see why they are attractive. The bulk fill ports on 'normal' grease guns are the option I used as a kid on the farm and they worked well. That's probably were I will start in the near term.

I have an battery powered Dewalt grease gun. There is another thread on here about battery grease guns and as a result of that, I bought the Dewalt (I have other Dewalt tools so the battery part was a consideration). I have lever and pistol grip guns, but they've been relegated to storage and all I use now is the Dewalt. It's one of those things that had I known then what I know now, I would have bought it a lot sooner.

I have a couple of those air operated pail type greasers got at auction. I meant to put a longer hose on them but never did, and don't use them. They kind of predate cordless tools even though having to change cartidges is another issue. Does anyone fill their grease gun from a pail? I bought a pump thing at TSC on clearance that is supposed to do that, but haven't tried it. I really, really hate working with grease! Just MESSY! Especially if you wipe off the excess. No wonder Heavy Equipment mechanics don't.

Aside from the grease gun, there are a variety of different nozzles.

If the OP needs a good gun because they need pressure, then PSI numbers should be posted. I'm seeing everything from 5k to 10k on pressure. The expensive Alemite gun is rated at 15k. If the OP needs above normal pressures, many of these suggestions don't mean much.

The last thing you want to do is blow out a seal.

I'm looking at 7K to 10K PSI guns. I'm not sure what the Atwoods, TSC, WalMart guns are rated at but, they are basically a waste of money for anything other than pulleys in my lawnmower deck. They leak grease and are generally a terrible mess to use.

The LockNLube and Lincoln lever guns are looking good at a 'moderate' cost.

WEll I heard a guy on youtube say something yesterday. You will NEVER regret buying a GOOD, HIGH QAULITY tool. Buy once, cry once.

So TRUE! On sealed bearings, I go easy and can feel the resistance spike when it's full. Blindly using a high-pressure electric, foot or, lever driven grease gun WILL cause you a lot of headaches, downtime and, money.

Yes, my replacement grease gun is already about $60 before I spend anything on the new one with three bad grease guns in the 'toolbox'. While not totally worthless for a lawnmower, that $60 would buy me a much nicer LockNLoad lever gun with a 10K PSI rating.
