44F and some high clouds @ 22:00 ...
Just got back from the Depot ... picked up some PT lumber and hardware for a stand for the PHD, some skids for the Tool Gypsy wood chipper, and a base for a 275 gallon tank. Also grabbed a new blade for the mitre saw ... since anytime I try to cut something with the old blade it makes smoke ... lots of smoke.
Spent most of the day cleaning up the inside of the barn and spreading fill dirt. Got about half of it cleaned up : leaves raked, trash and tools hauled out, etc. ... and fill spread on less than one bay (of three) Definitely will need more fill ... which I actually have (the spoil from the swimming pool) ... I just need to get it moved into the barn to dry it out/keep it dry, so that it can be screened.
Probably work in there some tomorrow too ... need to put the backhoe on and move it outside to get it out of the way and so I can clean it off. Then I'll move it back in (and tarp it this time)
The Kubota is sleeping in the barn tonight
Also did some clean up/grading work up on that area northeast of the polebarn ... can now get to the trail on the property line from the grassy area above the barn ... by driving under that widowmaker ...
This coming week looks like it will be it as far as much outside/landscaping work goes and it isn't looking all that great either ... Sunday and Monday no precip ... after two days of rain. High temps will be in the 40's/50's ... so I dunno how much drying will occur but it sure would be nice to get the leaves finished up.

Deer are very active now as is our stupid squirrel who instead of gathering nuts eats everyone he can find.
Winter for your neck of the woods will be especially brutal so gather your nuts
Finished job on mountain for now trucks had to back down narrow pig path for almost a mile to get to us, very narrow and steep drop off so no room for error but all was done and no one was hurt. Just glad to be done that one I'll tell you

54 this morning and rain/showers to last thru lunch time. High later today to reach 62 rain has been light but streets are wet. The ten day weather forecast shows snow here by next weekend but that's the weather channel on my phone so I doubt that but the snow is coming just more like Thanksgiving. The people in New England are going to get hammered at least once before big storm around Thanksgiving

a warm 59 degrees here, going up to 72 in hopefully some rain this afternoon and tonight. System looks pretty weak so far, most of the rain is up in VA, but I hope we get something. I'd take a measly .25.......

before I moved with great delight.
Well, electrician coming next week to install an interconnect box for my portable gen to at least run the critical circuits.
I've been wondering if I'm stupid for not just installing a whole house gen, like I had before, but that's just one more expense added to many,
which you all are clearly witnessing...so for this first winter I'm going to stick with my 7500 gas gen plugged in.
Power was lost here for about a week in the last hurricane that gave this place a direct hit. Flooded the entire waterway system pushing water into areas
no one was prepared for. boy did I study that historical flood map before buying this property, and it's nowhere close.
wonder if the Chonda engine in my new Honeywell generator will run for a week straight. Probably if I let it cool off for a few hours and run synthetic oil in it.
I will need to fill up several extra gas cans with gasoline, which I can purchase locally without ethanol, and premium too, and that with some Stabil should be good for a year. Like gasoline used to be...
off to measure out my new orchard and put little red flags where I want the trees to go. Then I'm going to take the lawn mower and mow a path along the pins cut very short. And then I'm not sure. One set of directions says plow the whole field under while the other says just go out and dig the holes.
The latter for sure. Tomorrow I go talk to the local ag agent and hopefully get educated on local pollinization requirements and fertilizers, etc.
What was really interesting was while I was at the local Verizon Wireless store, the manager overheard my conversation talking about building a fruit orchard, and
he zoomed right over to start asking questions. He is a beekeeper and head of the local beekeeper club, and they have members who would love to put a hive near an orchard. Going to ask the ag agent about that for sure. Seems interesting on the surface.

Yep, raining here and 55. Should get up to 68 and windy and rain may stick around all day.
We have the carpet installers coming back today. The new carpet we installed a few weeks ago is getting replaced already. Fortunately at no cost (after along heart to heart talk with the manager). It is a textured carpet with very small loops woven in, and they started pulling out. We love the carpet, but can't deal with gluing down loops every day. So had to move stuff out of the rooms again last night. This new carpet does not have any loops. Fingers crossed.

Thanks. It was our second choice carpet, and a very close second, so I think we'll like it. But this is nothing like your reno activity...so much going on at once. I know it will be wonderful when you are finished (I know, finished is a relative term) and totally settled.
