46 here and foggy, heading to 69 later today and tomorrow, before the big chill hits in the evening.

all you guys with these gorgeous garages and workshops, sigh.... Farmer, what style of construction will this be? post and beam?

Thanks Drew. It will be a pole barn structure. Although instead of putting runners on walls for metal siding. I am going to stud the walls and use a plywood that looks like 8" wide boards. Will have a gambrel metal roof. This roof design gives me a second floor.

57 this morning and headed to 62 by lunch then falling into the 40's by dark.

Off to return trawling machine and hope to pick up saw to get this project done before rain gets in here. Still haven't decided if I will cover slab for a few days or not.

Good morning! 58˚ and dropping. Cloudy, the blue norther just blew in, time to start the search for firewood in the woods. It will be in the 30s by morning but hopefully no freeze.

Good morning all. 43F when I got up 35F now cloudy and winds gusting to 25mph. Temps dropping rest of day. Looks like I missed the rain. Got a nasty shock yesterday when I went to clean chimney. The flue pipe is the old insulated type and the inside pipe has subsided 6+ in exposing the insulation. Still trying to find someone to discuss options. Did get about a cord and a 1/2 moved and stacked, still have more to cut and split.

Started the day at 63. Temp is now 49. They said the temp would drop then ease up before dropping off to near freezing tonight. No sign of the slight rise. Heavy wind as well, so the windchill is low 40s.

Frozen water line to the fifth wheel this morning... I know what I am doing for the next little bit.

/ Good morning!!!! #26,431
hey greenmojo, nice to have you aboard. If you've been here before, sorry, an advanced case of CRS. Now if your fifth wheel had been green,
you know that line would not have frozen...

well, got 'er dug. Ten holes that is, for the fruit trees I'm going to plant tomorrow. Took a while for that 18 inch auger to get a bite down through that field grass which is part centipede, about three inches of roots to get through, and then it bit into dirt and off we went. Ran it slow, got out a couple of times to make sure I was lined up properly in both directions, though I'm sure I'll go out tomorrow and wonder whether I hired a drunken sailor.

our rain today was a very disappointing fizzle. My sod under any tree cover never got wet so I'll be back on watering detail tomorrow.
all the dampness of today did was aggravate my arthritis. However, I do believe enough moisture came down that tomorrow morning I might light off the burn pile since I have a helper to keep an eye on it. But then I think the local Kubota dealer is delivering my new Land pride finishing mower tomorrow, however if it's wet enough to burn, it's wet enough to let the fields dry off a little. This will be the last mowing for the year and I'd like to leave it nicely. It would be nice to get it mowed before it goes down to 27 here Friday night. That should be an interesting event to see what does not do well. Since I'm new here and haven't been through the seasons, I don't know what is hardy and what isn't. Though 27 is hardly like the 9 degrees achieved last year during a cold snap. Job security for plumbers.

another endless contractor day. Just finished cleaning up from one when another truck comes down the lane. Painter came today, he is the only one who does not usually make a mess, since he typically gets stuck cleaning up after others. "The Painter will handle that" is a refrain I have heard often here. And Tito the painters says "they no want to do it, they leave it for me"

Thanks! The hose was green. ;-)

This morning has been funny... I was digging out around the frost free, and running a propane torch on it, when Frontier (telecom) pulled up on the property and drove up to the house. I'm completely off-grid, no public power, water of phone up here.

Apparently my neighbor about 1,000 yards away called and said his phone line was down and they saw my dozer tracks and followed them up here. They believed I cut the line. They then looked at my JD 4300 and asked if I'd drive down and help them move some dirt as its all frozen and all they had were shovels.

Long story short, I took the 4300 down there with the backhoe, dug up tons of dirt, they have no clue where the line is cut and now believe my dozer had nothing to do with it.

Now, I am back up working on the water line... that windchill found the slightest gaps in the insulation and froze the line in several spots completely solid.

So much for all of the other things I wanted to get done today, the sun is going down in 3 hours.

48F. Foggy and 42F tonight. Chance of rain tomorrow.

Changed the hydraulic fluid everywhere today, tractor, floor, coveralls ... Five drain plugs, one filter, ~11-1/2 gallons of fluid, 2/3 roll of paper towels, but it's done for another 600 hours. Made it to the grocery store too.

We've gotten hooked streaming The Killing from Netflix. I think we are 2-3 episodes from finding out who dunnit. The show has interesting characters. Last month we cancelled our cable TV and upped our cable internet speed. We found we just weren't watching TV. Most of it is bad programming and the commercials are 30% of the content. The price had crept up to $75/month for nothing we care about. Pfffft.

Hope farmer2009's concrete is looking good this evening.

Thanks! The hose was green. ;

Somebody had a phone line? :)

Fixed it. :D

Believe it or not we are thinking of going back to a landline from cable VOIP. No cell service here and the landline is cheaper than the cable phone. Then we would have a phone to call the cable company to tell them our service is bad.

I believe that within the next 5 years, land lines here in Michigan will be gone. The phone company wants everything to go to cell. No lines to maintain.

Yea Dave it is. Forgot to get any pics today. Did manage to get it sawed before the rain set in. After washing it down I found the low spots. Luckily I sawed through the big ones and the saw cut is draining them. They aren't deep maybe a 32nd or 16th. Just enough to leave a puddle.

Edit. Correct auto correct.

I think that would be hard to get past the regulators unless everyone everywhere has some sort of phone service option. We are lucky to have cable here; we happen to live on one of the more area primary roads where the cable company has a major fiber line going from one town to another. Many around here don't have cable access. DishTV/DirectTV does a good amount of business here.

I'd like to go cellular but can't. We need more towers here but the phone traffic is probably too light to make it attractive. There was talk of putting a tower on a hill that would serve our part of the dead zone that we live in. Haven't heard peep lately about any new towers.
