Happy anniversary Bup!

Well boys, there's a rumor around that there is a kind of big, bright thing way up above earth somewhere that is supposed to give us warmth, food, all kinds of good things, even can darken our hide if we want, and has been known to start fires in various ways. BUT, ye canno' prove it exists by me!

Well, here we go.
For my buddy Buppies,
I'm going over the edge
and becoming SUPER.
Happy Anniversary Buppies!
Give your wife a nice kiss from all of us.
After about fifty of them you might explain yourself. :D

overcast day here, not bad.
Got the trailer hooked up to the truck, lights all checked out, tires pumped up.
Long drive tomorrow, all the way across NC to just this side of Asheville, where Everything Attachments is located.
I wanted to buy US made and now I'm getting NC made. Getting a rear blade, rake and a front pallet fork attachment.
Going right by all the major cities, including the furniture capital of the US, well at least for US made, near Hickory (HighPoint?) NC.

Good Afternoon. 1250, rain, 47F with 100% humidity. Forecast high of 47F with 100% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 39F tonight. Another wet, gray day here at the Larro Ranchero. It will be good for the ponds, but with Redhorse Sucker fishing season nearing, the high creeks might make it impossible to put the wire in the creek once again. It's been three years since we have been able to fish them.

Happy Anniversary Buppies.

Every stay safe and warm,

Larro

Here was my lifting day breakfast. Eggs, sausage, bacon, cheese, 2% milk, mixed & stir-fry veggies. My latest smoothie, plain & Vanilla Greek yogurt, mixed berries. Garlic and parm toast.

Yes kinda of quiet here getting ready for work bride is sleeping. She goes for morning exercise I go to work. Since I've been off a couple of days hung a new picture we got and helped with chores around house. Nothing special being with her is enough. Hopefully we can eek out another 38 together

Looks like more rain coming Sunday after our little snow (does half inch even count)

Maybe something more interesting for the next weekend weather wise

now you know we would have to look something that interesting up Larro.
Looks like a trout and good to eat.
Robust Redhorse Sucker
do you have the Florida version of this or has it moved more than these folks think?

MossFlowerWoods bet it's pretty at your place this morning nice coating of snow

No sir! The pond and drive were white, but the grass was much taller than the approximately 1/4" I got.

I did test "Rusty's" 4x4 just for fun though.

Still waiting for sledding weather...
Be well all

Drew, ours is the regular old sucker fish. The robust is a pretty rare and endangered cousin. Here is what Wikipedia has to say: http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_redhorse

I searched You Tube looking for a video of them being caught by hand, like we do it, but I couldn't find any. There was this one showing how to prepare them for cooking. They have so many small, soft bones you have to 'gash' them about every 1/4 inch so the bones will fry up crisp. If they aren't gashed right, you end up trying to chew a mouth full of bones.

But during the spring {February and March} they go up creeks to spawn. You build a pen with chicken wire across the creek and leave a gap in the downstream side. At night you wait until there are a lot of fish in the pen, then you stob down the gap, and go in and catch the fish by hand. Lots of fun.

Good afternoon all. 21F this morning, 46F now and that big fireball is clearly visible :) . Got the new window in the green S10 after some adjustments on the cab. Got the oil changed in the red S10 wife got new tires on it, was turning into the inspection station and check engine light turns on. :thumbdown: P0327 knock sensor, not easy to replace :confused3: . Cat converter in green s10 tomorrow along with passenger side mirror and it should be ready for inspection. Sinuses still draining, definite lack of energy and focus.

Cupcake fell asleep on the couch and I just finished stoking the massive bed of coals in the stove and then stuffed a large maple round into it ... should be good for most of the night.

Heading back up to the shop to work on building the splitter.

Happy anniversary Bup ...

I used to have a recipe for that type of fish.
Something along the lines of:
Nail gutted fish to a washed and wetted birch plank
Score Skin
Spice w/ pepper, garlic, salt
Roast in a slow fire till flesh gets soft
Remove from fire and let rest 10 minutes
Remove and throw away the nail and fish
Eat the plank

Man, that's criminal!

Since it is not uncommon to catch a hundred or more a night when the moon is full and they are running good, I have used them in the garden for plant food. I'm not crazy about eating them, but it is an old time tradition, many of which are gone by the wayside. Anytime I can get a lot of kids in the creek to catch suckers, I do it. With any luck, when they are grown, they will take their kids. When the first Florida Crackers learned from the Creek Indians how to catch suckers, every little bit of meat you could lay your hands on was important. These days you spend more on the chicken wire than the fish are worth, food wise, but I still enjoy doing it.

19F, same as this morning. No sun today. A trace of snow this evening. I think the high was 23F. It was a very boring weather day. Actually it was a very boring day in all respects. The winter doldrums are sneaking up on me.
