no joy on my fruit tree holes. Worse today, water is almost up to the top of the holes.

I started to dig a hole for a gate post before Christmas. Darkness fell before I could get to the bottom so I stopped, intending to finish the next morning. Overnight it too filled up with water like those fruit tree holes.

More than 2 months on and still no dry hole for the gate post, only a "wishing well" - well I wish I hadn't dug that hole.

25 out this AM. Went to another real job, bad weather moving in this afternoon. Sleet and freezing rain. Should make life fun for this area.

Be safe, everyone.

26 and a little blue in the sky on the way to 36 and rain/snow/sleet over the next 3 days.

Got up to 53 yesterday, so did melt a lot of the snow and ice.

Got a new hot water heater yesterday to replace a leaky 10 year old one. I chickened out on installing myself, but once I got the bill, saw the folly of my decision. It was a little tricky and took 3 hours.

Ordered another 10 tree seedlings to plant from the Virginia Dept of Forestry...Norway spruce for future Christmas trees.

Morning all, 21F here with snow on the way, changing to ice pellets, changing to freezing rain, changing to rain with the high of 37F. At least that is what is predicted.

Had a real brain fart last night, was changing the oil in my son's car, drained oil, changed filter, refilled, started car and oil ran out onto cement floor in the garage. When I changed the filter did not realize the rubber seal from old filter had stayed stuck to the engine. Has happened to me before but I caught it and removed it, this time I made quite a mess of the garage.:ashamed:

Coffee is done brewing. 50° with mostly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 67° with partly cloudy skies. Rain finally happened. Should be good for the drought in the area. May get a little patio time if sun comes out long enough.
Good Morning All.

41F heading to a high of 63F under clear skies and light breezes that build to 10MPH by evening.

Everything checked out OK at the ophthalmologist yesterday. Always remember to ask "how long will it take" when the ophthalmologist says "yes" after you ask him if you'll be able to drive home after he dilates your eyes. Spent the last hour and a half sitting of the appointment in the truck outside the place waiting for my eyes to adjust to daylight, and that was with two dark lenses in place.

Enjoy your Tuesday, everyone!

38 this morning and headed to 61 today. Rain this afternoon changing to snow over night. High tomorrow 25 and 6-10 inches of accumulation. Our last snow from what was it 2 1/2 weeks ago is still here in places. Guess it was waiting on the next round.

Eric nice lambs. My friends sheep are set to lamb in May. He's going to try and run two lambings a year May and November.
When I have calves that don't want to move the first time. I move all of the feed to the new field with the cows and leave the gate open they will find their mother or she will come back and get them during the day then I can close the gate. Once they move once they'll move with momma the next time.

Drew. I have taken a 5 gallon bucket and drilled holes in the sides and set my sump pump into the bucket before. Doesn't keep all the mud out but most of it.

Nice lambs Eric.

Have a good one.

Only gonna last a couple hours tho' ...

They're still predicting an overnight low of -1F for Thursday ... after that the temps start to turn a little more seasonable.

Good morning! Foggy 43˚. I have not seen the sun for a week.

With the success of the drain project, leak project, cow project I'm ready to go back and tackle Mom's kitchen light project. I decided to remove the problematic florescent light fixtures and install LED lights. Costco had their 4' LED lights on sale and I bought 4 for them. All I need to do is add plug receptacles and changeout the fixtures. I also made a project yesterday when their tumble buggy (round bale collapsable trailer) wiring connection broke when I disconnected it after feeding. It's getting to be a regular part time job keeping them going.

Is it possible to grow old on the farm without a lot of help? My observations say no. Mobility and eyesight diminish over time. When do you implement plan B? What do you do if plan B (your children) are not available. I see Drew and a few other have their go-to-helpers lined up.

I am not nearly as old as a lot of TBNers and am thinking about plan B now. I seriously doubt any family will be a go-to-helper here. Usually when I fired up equipment, they all went someplace else when they were young.

I had hopes on just mowing grass when the time comes, but that too can be a "chore".

Good your helping out, it takes a lot of time and effort to help. Good for you.

Back on my extension project this morning

Be safe
Have a great day

Good morning. As txdon declined to supply animal pics yesterday (and for that we were all grateful), I'll put up a couple more lamb pictures instead. These are the youngest, still sheltering inside. Others out in the field are finding shelter from the biting wind wherever they can. I tried to move some ewes and their lambs over to another field this morning where the water isn't frozen. The ewes are easy enough to bribe with a bucket of corn pellets, however the lambs don't really want to move away and a dozen or more kept doubling back to where they spent the night. Dog is not much help. He's happy to let the lambs be, just giving them a sniff and occasional wag of his tail. So I've admitted defeat for the moment. Have to try again later and ask the Mrs to help

Cute
Tempted to ask if your wife's name is Mary, but that just might indicate I'm not fully awake yet. :)

Good morning all. 31F for a start, minimal precip overnight, 52F and periods of rain today. Cold shot comes back in tonight, and stays till Friday morning. Working on cleaning the fireplace and hearth today. Sinus drainage has improved, and the near normal temps starting Friday should help as well.

Good Afternoon. 1230, sunny, 84F with 59% humidity. Forecast low of 57F tonight. I've been out planting the last few longleaf seedlings, and it is sweaty weather here. Going back out to trim some trees so I can get closer with the tractor for mowing. Should have already been done, but Spring has sneaked up on me.

Hope everyone is having a good day,

Larro

All went well, sheep moved into middle fields ready for the next lot.
Had to carry some of the lambs through the gateway as the mud was too deep for them. I must get it filled in with more rubble (think I say that every year).

Ah, you were taught that nursery rhyme too.
I can't remember all the variants we told as kids and some were probably too vulger to go on here.

Mary had a little lamb,
It had a touch of colic,
She gave it brandy twice a day,
And now its alcoholic.

Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow.
Along came foot-and-mouth disease,
Now it's burried six feet below

Feel free to add - I'm not married to a Mary !
