made a date in May to tow my Gravely garden tractor up to Arkville NY to its forever home in the mountains.
towing a one ton trailer will be like nothing is back there but I will keep it at 65 anyway.
my problem is the air dam on the Expedition. It is enormous and very low.
only about five inches of clearance and that means it will get busted going up the road to the mountain cabin.
so the air dam has to go. Should make no difference around town, just on highway, and if I'm towing, my mpg is low anyway.
other models have much higher air dams so I don't think it will affect cooling.
Even Ford says take it off while offroading.
8 bolts. How hard can that be?
This Saturday my 14yo family helper will be working at my place, and one of our jobs is the final cleanup of the Gravely.
old friend, had it more than 20 years.
I'll be staying at a B&B in Arkville while there; I'm too old to sleep on those uncomfortable beds any more and I really
prefer my own privacy. Plus I get up too early and go to bed too early for this crowd. I booked a first floor room with a private
entrance, that should work nicely. Catskill Mountains are very pretty. One more trip out route 28 seeing half a dozen signs for the
Esopus River as it winds along this road, finally ending up in the NYC reservoir system.
finished up day by making high level decision on moving stuff around in back yard and having a nicer outdoor seating area.
So I ordered a combo set of four chairs and a propane fire pit in the middle. That will go where utility trailer is parked now and trailer will be parked
back behind garage. I don't use it often anyway. Risky buying from Amazon but price was less than half of Costco choices. Chairs are one piece rattan so
will be a lot of big boxes showing up one day.
lastly researched paver stones since without gutters rain on new garden shed is digging into fresh soil below.
I need 12 linear feet of pavers, found some interesting ones made of/looks like river rock held together by small ropes at Home Depot.
I might use up a bag of leftover paver sand in between the rocks.
so tomorrow in the rain will drive over to Flemington NJ, only 20 minutes away and pick up some of these:
