RNG, you can make your own beer and 'puffin stuff' is legal. Depending on the province you can grow your own legally.

But tomorrow it's supposed to change with rain, snow, etc. and subfreezing weather the rest of the week.
Thanks Bird, by using the "S" word you have officially put Central and North Texas in a buying frenzy and shelves are emptying.

My Dad made dandelion wine once when I was in HS. Don’t remember it as that great.
My maternal grandmother and uncle used to make Homebrew when I was quite young. Just maybe that led to my fondness for beer

That's tempting, Don. But Kyle already spilled the beans about scorpions, I'd need a dog like Whipper to save me from the snakes, and I'd most certainly melt in the summer humidity. I like the idea about being able to wear a red hat without being insulted (or assaulted) though. And this time around, I'm hoping to find a barn that is already raised. I feel like I'm running out of time to do a DIY version.
Just one clarification, once you get several hundred miles from the coast the humidity drops considerably. The lady across the street just had a whole house humidifier installed.

That is for sure, I don't believe that West Texas knows what that is.
A few (10) years in Seminole and Fort Stockton, working in much of the Permian Basin.

Thermometer says it went from 13° to 43° today. Seemed pretty cool yet when I got home from work, don’t think it stayed in 40s very long.
Ground still seemed pretty solid, so got tractor out and moved the tote of firewood, to find it was too tall to fit under the old truck cap that’s up on a wooden frame. So just put the wood behind the barn for now. Used backhoe to scrape out the rest of old firewood. Moved some other junk around.
Still trying to locate some missing pictures, I know I had them, but can’t find in digital or physical form. Only pics I knew I had from one of the states.

So next state up, near and dear to RNG is California. All my trips there have been work related since the 80s. In my early career, I designed large power systems.
Had a contractor rebuilding some EMD engines north of San Fran. Used to fly into Oakland, but would visit San Fran.
Also took a week long course once in San Mateo and took a drive one evening down the coast to half moon bay.
Also had trip to Sacramento.
Also been to LA for work.

San Fran is an interesting city, not sure I want to go back, but enjoyed my few visits there. Remember eating in China Town one night, ordered a bowl of wonton soup to go with my meal. They brought out a huge bowl of it, apparently a meal by itself. Drove the Golden Gate a few times. Never made it to Yosemite or the giant redwoods.

Not sure why a duplicate picture.

Spent a week there at a business conference in the mid 1990's. Stayed at the Mark Hopkins and thought it was fantastic. Had a lot of fun in the city and weather was beautiful. I seriously doubt it is still fantastic but I hope it is because I would just hate to think of it not being fantastic.

21° right now...high in the upper 30's, maybe 40.
Storm tonight will be starting as rain, transition to snow tonight sometime. Current prediction is 13"-14". The prediction has been fluctuating between 12-15 inches all along.
Fortunately, stepdaughter is off Thursday and Friday, and I'll be working from home...nobody needs to go anywhere

Main chore is to fuel the tractor and I might make a dump run while I'm out. Extention cord is plugged in to the tractor, but not into the wall outlet. The warmup will be sometime tomorrow morning
Thinking of it, better get some ice melt, if there's any available

If I’m not on later, you know why.
Heck, I was off TBN for a few days after mostly’s post got removed, and Eddie’s thread got locked and nobody noticed. In the end, I figured the friendships on TBN was more important. Plus, I had to come back to wish Bird a happy birthday.
I noticed and was about to contact you.

If you believe reality TV, the copper in the coils helps purify the liquor. Try some of the original Climax brand moonshine made by Tim Smith. Very smooth with a strong corn flavor. 🤤 I like his "aged" whiskeys , too.
A possible reason to move here...they make Climax up near Culpeper.

BEF, you like cider...have you been to the Bold Rock cidery in Nellysford (near Wintergreen)? Nearby is Devil's Backbone. too.

24 going to 51...weather man is talking about freezing fog in nearby counties...was forecast here, but apparently only along the Bay counties now.

He also talked about the snow storm stretching from New Mexico to Maine...you guys stay safe...we are only getting rain, they say.

I don't think our groundhog is gonna see his shadow today...the coyotes were really going at it and woke me up at 4:30. Groundhog better stay in his den.

Thanks for sharing the moonshine, etc stories...quite colorful and interesting...my only experience was in Botany class we made dandelion beer...I see why you don't see that for sale on the shelf...not so good.

Had a firewood day yesterday instead of a firewise...split one pallet and by then the temp had warmed enough to make ground soft so walked my chainsaw down the hill and tackled a couple of dead trees, and did some storm clean up. Found one large dead tree that I decided was above my pay grade...just couldn't figure how to bring it down safely...first time I remember being stumped like that. (pun intended).

My lovely wife brought home a vegetable calzone for dinner...so refueled nicely and flaked out.

No, but have looked at land online in that area.

Good morning all. Firewood store next to house is empty, no rush though to fetch some more as it is a mild 11C/52F outside with just about enough heat coming off 2 adults, one small dog and numerous electrical appliances to keep the inside comfortable for a few more hours.

There was said to be a gigantic geomagnetic storm starting last night, some lucky people got to see the "Northern lights". Did anyone on here see it ? Nothing but cloud when I looked out, did have a "ring of fire" sunrise the other morning, unfortunately it lasted only seconds and was fading by the time I got my phone out..

Roy, thanks for the link. After reading it I have forgotten what I was supposed to be doing this morning, then realised that problem solved itself- the morning has now gone ! :)

23 outside this AM. Heading to mid 40's then the bad/cold weather comes in.

Went back to part-time after yesterday. Big guy called, rearranged some things. We will see if that helps all of us out.

Restacked some firewood yesterday, think today I will go on an Eagle quest with the wife, since this appears to be the last "nice" day for a while.

Two daughters look like they may be back here at home shortly. Both need a "home" base close to their new contracts. Should be interesting times ahead.

Hope all have a great day, be safe. Get well for those ailing.

BEF, I'd look further west and south of Culpeper. Land prices around my area are quadruple what they should be, IMHO. Houses, up there too. Yesterday I saw a 2000 sqft home, 12 acres, 600k.

Our temperature this morning is still in the mid-50s, almost no wind, BUT the folks who are supposed to know say we've got some COLD weather, RAIN turning to SLEET, turning to SNOW, coming late this evening and tonight. Our City and our County and our Electric provider are all supposedly making extra arrangements for severe cold, possible trees down, power outages, etc. Who knows how bad it will get, or if it will get bad, but it appears that all has been done that can be done. Schools and colleges plan to be shut down tomorrow and maybe a few more days.

Our only real concern is the possbility of a power outage and whether we have enough little bottles of oxygen for Margaret if her oxygen generator quits running due to a power outage. But I think we're as well prepared as we could be, and don't really expect any real problems.

And I just now got a big pot of Wick Fowler 2 Alarm Chili started in the crockpot.:) And I've got cornbread cooking. So I reckon we're as ready as we can be for whatever happens.🤣🤣
