Good Morning!

After not having but about 3" of snow all winter, we just had our 4th March storm. This one dumped about 9" of snow/sleet/rain that needed to be plowed this AM. No work today, but we have a Dr. to go see. About 29F right now headed for a high on 42. Good luck to all and have a nice weekend!

Good Morning Frank. Can you imagine a hundred years ago doing this all by shovel?
Safe drive today.

Good Morning!!!! 55F @ 4:30AM. Showers and thundershowers this morning, then cloudy with rain likely during the afternoon. High 56F. Winds S at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall may reach one inch.

So much for that forecast. This latest Pacific storm has already dropped 1.04" since midnight (on top of 1.18" yesterday), and the weather radar is lit up like a Christmas tree with more. It's coming from the south, and it's solid green and yellow all the way to the Mexican border and beyond. "They" said yesterday we'd get a break this afternoon, but the radar's telling a different story. I've been up since about 2:30 AM when the storm started rattling the roof and the rain started beating against the sliding glass door leading onto the patio. The slider faces south, and with winds up to 42 MPH, the glass rattles and I wonder if I shouldn't move to a safer place.

What is Sophie getting for her birthday, David? I'll bet it's something very special...

It's good to have "family" in high places, especially if it is the chicken business. To quote Howlin' Wolf (and later Jim Morrison), "I eat more chicken than any man ever seen".

Signs of life from the old motorcycle yesterday, as I was able to get the engine to run, though but briefly and only three times out of many attempts. I'm slowly getting better with my kicking technique, homing in on the proper timing setting, and getting to know the carburetors. These vagaries are compounded by the ignition system having issues with "large displacement, high compression engines", and with two 300cc jugs and 9.5:1 pistons, I think the old girl qualifies. There are reasons "they don't build 'em like they used to". Today's grocery day, so I'll pick up a fresh can of high test (the stuff that's in it now goes back to Valentines Day), and Saturday Amazon is supposed to deliver a new set of spark plugs, so I'll give it another go then. Never had much luck with Bosch, and the new ones'll be from NGK. In the meantime, a new ignition lock showed up, along with the bracket to mount the speedo, so I should be able to get the headlight shell buttoned up. Also I've recently learned that the way I setup the wheel bearing preload was not correct, and the 0.002" thick spacers needed to do it right came this week, too, so I have plenty to keep me busy. Just glad it's all inside work, as this weather is supposed to last through most of the weekend. March Miracle, indeed! Only 150' more to go.

Hang in there gang, Friday's comin'!

Happy Birthday and prayers Sophie.

I had a very nice elderly lady at church call me and while she is healthy, she asked if I would be one of her pall bearers. I said I'd be honored, but I hope you make another 25 years.

Seeing all the wet snow on the weather up there... was the ground hog right this year?

So glad the bomber threat in Austin is no more....what a horrible and strange situation. So sorry for those families that are suffering his heinous acts.

Word on the street is that the number of porch package thefts was way down for a few weeks.

Our garden needs rain. An inch would be nice.

Hope all of you have a safe and blessed day.

Against all my better judgement, and because it's the right thing to do,
I have put my offer of giving a used tractor to my Quaker Meeting in PA to the House & Grounds Committee.
Who will meet with the Trustees since the the tractor will be used in the large cemetery and that "turf" literally comes under
the Trustees. I'm sure all churches have similar committees, so instead of just getting something done, and I am one of two people
involved in a discussion among more than a dozen who has even sat on the seat of a tractor. Sigh.
Big hearts, good hearts, not much understanding.

So here I am trying to describe the features and functions of a BX Kubota with a little loader to a very wide range of mostly white collar folk,
and I list the pto and the three point hitch and then the question comes back does it have a pto and three point hitch.
Sigh.
It has to be a very small tractor due to clearances in the graveyard. A small Massey or similar would do. BX is actually a tiny bit on the small side,
maybe a B or the equivalent one ton tractor.

When you drive over areas where you aren't sure where the bodies are, including some American Indians, buried more than 300 years ago,
there is a shared sense in the Meeting to tread lightly, in all senses of that term. If my little Massey had a loader it would be a perfect tractor but it's not going anywhere...

No excavator work, no snow removal; both contracted out. But snow cleanup is where the bucket helps and rear rake will help with getting gravel back on gravel roads throughout graveyard.
We had to plow 14 inches of wet snow out of there, all the way back of course..., so that an elderly member of the Meeting who had passed a few days earlier, a Federal judge who my Mother clerked for, could get a green burial on Sunday. I was all set to yell weather clause or something like that, the plow truck got stuck and had to be wrecker truck hauled out., but
I'm not up there and the call was made to get it done. And they did. Snow is snow, you deal with it. Just have to be careful in graveyards not to hurt gravestones pushing snow.

So I'm working hard to get my very first tractor back. It's quite a saga of first it was the church's tractor, then it was mine, now it's the church's again, and I want it back since it's
getting wrecked there. Maybe two hours use in four years. Just the wrong tractor for them and no loader. Square peg in a round hole and I aim to fix that.
So I'm looking at used BX's with MMM and loader.

But the point of all this, other than being a tractor story, is that regardless of my knowing what will work best there,
there must be a shared sense of agreement in this process. So it's in committee. And this process is bog slow.
Always has been, likely always will be, though email really helps.
Less night meetings. Maybe this sounds familiar at other churches some of you attend.

So here I am offering the gift horse/tractor to the church, and they are mulling it over.
Am hoping Uhaul makes a one way trailer I can rent in PA to haul my tractor back; my trailer is only one ton and the tractor
is a little over that. Too long a drive to worry about blowing a tire on a single axle trailer.

Wonder if a Steiner or Ventrac would be a better fit for your Church? Just a thought. Ed

Thanks LS
My lab says the normal range is 4.0 to 11.3, looks like you are on the lower side. You will enjoy this research.
What Does a Low White Blood Cell Count Mean? | NutritionFacts.org

Mine was flagged for being too low at 2.9 and I was feeling a little apprehensive till I saw the research. Now I feel much more confident.
It was made official today after blood test results and a visit to the cardiologist I'm now free of all meds. Apparently it takes a lot for a cardiologist to agree to stop the statins after a heart attack. He said he will be monitoring me closely, another blood test in 3 months.

I almost never look at that patient portal, but just out of curiosity I find that for my physical on 3/30/2017, my doctor has the "standard range" shown at 3.4 to 10.8 and mine was 6.9.

Good Morning everyone and Happy Birthday Sophie.

I wish you many more. Hopefully pain-free. Congratulations on the 33 years together.

Drew- You are very generous. I hate those "Head" and "Heart" conflicts. I always feel better when the "Heart" wins.

Thall- Thanks for sharing the pictures. It's still "Winter" here.

Randy- I did not think that you would become a "cradle robber." I hope that you and Ellen can continue to enjoy each other's company.

Well the hyped "Stormaggedon" event fizzled out significantly in NE. I did not expect much and my expectations were met = 0". A lot of ProMets and weather geeks :embarrassed: look pretty foolish right now. A lot of unnecessary school and business closings. And now the post-event analysis begins. I do not see any significant snow for the NE through the weekend which is OK with me. We have a personal commitment that requires us traveling to NYC over the weekend. There is a swath of snow modeled for the weekend from mid central CONUS to the MidAtlantic states; as Buppies prognosticated previously. April 1st is looking interesting for southern NE and the MidAtlantic region.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all.

Isn't that a little bit like the pot calling the kettle black? You ARE the Epic Contributor with 22,939 posts, aren't you? Do you realize that at this point you're responsible for .46% of the 5 MILLION posts on TBN? Wouldn't that make you part of the "problem"? Actually, that's quite an accomplishment, Randy.:laughing:

Most of that came when I use to post on Frienfly Politics. My total is going to drop way down the ladder now.

Gotta check on the Monte Carlo, been at the shop for a week, getting valve cover gaskets, heater control valve and water neck gasket as well as new dual exhausts and removal of unneeded crap under the hood. When I get it home I’ll tweet the Quadrajet to suit me and recurve the ignition. All that will make it more responsive and improve mpg. It ain’t a race car but it might as well be all it can.

30°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 51° today.

Spent the evening yesterday in the company of my cohorts form the acoustic rock trio. We are playing a benefit this Friday evening for an old high school buddy who's battling kidney cancer, and decided it would be wise to get together and brush off some of the rust that had clearly accumulated over the last year since we've played. It was originally supposed to be just a bunch of musicians, but several had to back out at the last minute, so it's mostly us now with a few "guests" popping in. We always had a good time together, and last night was no different. Should be a fun time Friday as well.

On my way back home last night, I got about 500 yards from the driveway when a local raccoon decided to cross Randy's rainbow bridge ... not via 10/22, but rather via the left front and rear tires of my Kia Soul.

The Wife got all of the tax stuff done yesterday for both us and her business. Nice to get that out of the way.

Happy Birthday, Sophie.
