No offence Bird but the cops need to write more tickets so people will behave.
:laughing:Now I've been retired for many years, so I cannot say how things are today. However, contrary to what many, if not most, people think, most officers hated writing tickets. Yep, you stop drivers because they did something wrong, but haven't we all made mistakes? And you meet a lot of nice folks who just made a mistake, so you hate to issue a citation. We never had a quota, as such, however, when I was a patrolman, each sergeant kept track of the citations issued and/or arrests made by each of his patrolmen, and each month the low man got, at least orally, reprimanded for being so low. Personally, I averaged better than 4 a day, which back then was about normal, or just a little better. Years later, when I was a patrol lieutenant, my officers averaged less than 2 a day, but that was higher than any of the other lieutenants' crews.
When I was recruiting as a patrolman, and years later was commander of the personnel division and in charge of hiring, I long ago lost track of the number of applicants, or potential applicants, who wanted to be police officers, but only if they could be detectives and not wear a uniform or issue traffic citations.
