Good Morning!!!! 48F @ 5:00AM. Rain. High 52F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall around a half an inch.
Pretty much steady rain and wind for the past two days, dropping about 3.75" yesterday and gusting to 45mph. Picked up almost an inch already this morning, but it seems to be tapering off. Still lots of wind, though, enough to cause the BBQ to dance around on the back patio, a bit like the rocks at Death Valley National Park's famous Race Track.
I hope Julie gets use of her arm back before your cooking gets the better of both of you, or you lose any appendages, Eric! Might you want to consider some gloves and safety glasses, and careful reading of a cook book?
Good luck with that new electric Husky, Bill. Let us know how your batteries hold up. Lots of good advise on dealing with that tree here; just take things slow and think about what could happen as a result of a cut and you should be fine. Each of my Stihl saws have come with a manual that included many pages of chainsaw safety information. My guess is your new saw has the same, and it's well worth reading, especially if it's been a while since you last did. On the last downed tree I had to cut up, it was sometimes difficult to tell which way a limb or trunk was going to go, or whether to cut from the top or bottom. A while ago I picked up a pair of plastic wedges, and started driving one into the kerf once it got deep enough so as not to interfere with the saw. That kept the blade from being pinched even if I guessed wrong on how the cut would open or close as the cut progressed. But even without a wedge, if you pay attention to the width of the kerf, you can see it opening or closing and stop cutting in time to avoid a trapped bar. Or not, but that's where the FEL and bucket come in handy, as does another saw.:confused2:
Never made it out to the garage yesterday to work on that winch; instead I ordered a new laptop. It seems the other 2011 MacBook Pro succumbed to the same graphics processor malady as did the 17" last year, but instead of spending another $400 to get it fixed, I decided an upgrade was in order of my main MBP. More memory, faster processor and graphics chip hopefully will mean a longer useful life. And repurposing the current MBP to the home control task will let me take advantage of some new features, mainly video processing, that the older versions of MacOS didn't support on the 2011 vintage machine. Avoided the mistake of ordering it directly from Apple and instead found a substantial discount on one offered by B&H Photo. Free shipping should have it here by Monday.
Hope everyone enjoys the ride over the Hump today...
