Well, I go for years without having any kind of excitement at work, but tonight we had a little. There was a youth baseball meeting that had just got added in the last day or two. The fellow who reserved the room was one of our county commissioners. He stopped in the office and talked for a few minutes before the meeting started. He said there had been an ongoing problem with some of the parents, and we were in danger of losing the program if they didn't calm down. The meeting was to see if they could talk some sense to the folks. My other event got through early, and I was down there cleaning up when the baseball meeting broke up. I noticed a heated discussion going on in the lobby, but they went on outside, so I got back to work. There were still ten or fifteen men hanging around the lobby talking. A few minutes later they all ran outside, so I knew something was up. Then when I looked out and saw the three police cars, it confirmed my thoughts.
Later when I got all the facts, {I have extra paperwork because of this} I heard one fellow was wanting to fuss with the county commissioner, but the CC kept walking away from him, trying to prevent trouble. It got so two or three men were holding the fellow back, but he slipped away from them and bumped into the CC. Big mistake. They said the CC gave the fellow a pretty good licking before they could pull him off. And it isn't just simple assault when you attack an elected official. There is extra charges for that. The police arrested him, and about half the men went to the police station to make statements. I'm not sure how this will effect the youth baseball league. But maybe I will go a few more years before I have this kind of excitement again.
