74 and foggy, going to 90 and humid, then more 90s this week. Summer is arriving now that it is almost September.

Drew, sounds like peace is near. That critter on your porch may be a skink. Is it partly blue?

David, nice looking treadclimber. I bet the view out that door is nice to look at while working out.

Dave, we have some color in our red maples, too, early due to how dry it's been.

Poured first cup of coffee. 66° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 80° with mix of sun and clouds. Chance of a couple of showers throughout the day. Another picnic today. Then NASCAR in the evening.
Good Morning All.

a fine Sunday morning to all. Feel like a new, though a bit "high mileage" person this morning....
David/Sodamo, they got my treadmaster up to the second floor with difficulty...,along with my BowFlex, and recumbent bike. Maybe now in my new chapter of life I'll actually use them. Though having lost 15 pounds in the last six weeks, not sure I need more exercise now. Though walking should be good. I need to pay attention to you guys with more discipline and get back into a routine. While my spare passenger tire is now a spare motorcycle tire, anything that gets weight off my mid section (as YOU all know...) is good. I'm on my last belt loop on a few pants...haven't been there in a while and frankly it's all good.

Every time I buy a 20 or 30 pound bag of sunflower seed, I remind myself that I was carrying several of those around on me and how much better it feels to be lighter. I'll always be 20-30 over the line for my height, but so what; it's the health of the major systems that's more important. Like mental acuity. Gosh, where are my teeth?...:D

Sunday morning. Need to find another length garden hose to finish the front porch, which washed off quite nicely, leaving a light grey stain to the floor. It needs another before winter; the porch is pretty new, thank goodness.
Considering that I measured the front part at 8 feet 2 inches by 52 feet long, with an L going off another 14 feet down the side of the house. I hope to never have to replace that. I bet the bill for that drove the prior owner's out of here; really became a money pit for an older couple. So now it is my money pit...but I'll have a new kitchen and new bathroom to use and it will feel more personalized to me.

problem with all repainting is knowing what was under there...I hosed off the front door step and the paint just peeled off; someone dumped some latex on oil, or vice versa. The rest is stained, and stain I think is great for a porch.
Most of the house has siding, so I'm dealing with a fair amount of trim only. And a cupola way up on top of the garage that is peeling like crazy and no way I'm going up there. No trips to the ER. No trips to the ER. repeat often.

Just might have to go out and mow some paths to the barn. The area outside the white fencing is pasture/field and will contain the future fruit orchard in one area. But my smaller tractor with smaller bush hog on back gets delivered in a week and I'd rather cut that area with that tractor. Gives the tractor purpose...and exercise which it sure needs as its a/c big sister gets the most seat time. Actually the smaller tractor will have my phd/tree auger on it mostly; it's going to be my Johnny Appleseed machine.

if the Quick Hitch apparatus was really easy, instead of just helpful, I'd probably swap out my weight box for the larger mower on the kubota and mow the whole area in an hour. But I'd rather run the smaller tractor for two hours, get it good and hot and use up some of that aging diesel fuel in it.

need to go out and get something done outside in the morning. Plenty of stuff inside to work on when it gets hotter outside. Currently 75 degrees already going to 90 today, but no rain in the forecast.

66 right now and overcast. The forecast for today is a high of 77 and 80% chance of rain...glad I finished mowing yesterday!

56F and clouds. Chance of scattered t-showers this afternoon & early evening, high of 83F.

I have a little more backhoe work to do on the swale crossing. Yesterday got into more digging than I originally thought - of course. Also encountered some big rocks that took a while to deal with. I'm trying to get the ugly parts of the field project squared away first. I hate driving by or around something and thinking someday I need to get after that. :) I've got one more smaller and easier ugly trail area to do after the swale.

It's funny about red maples turning. We have some trees that are always early individuals. It has been dry here the past couple weeks but the general moisture level in the ground is still high from the rains we had earlier. We never had a hot, dry spell this summer.

66F overcast temp topping of near 80's w/pop up thunderstorms into early evening.
Plans for today..do little ditch cleaning w/front loader, take wife shopping, birthday dinner, check game cam, watch some racing tonight,as they say subject to change w/out notice.

Enjoy day all.

Looks like the heat and humidity are returning for this week and maybe next. Long range forecast for September warm and dry. There are a lot of similar features between this year and 2009 as far as weather goes. Late October to mid November will tell the tale on what the winter will hold for us in the east

Enjoying summers last days at the coast and had a great day yesterday. Must have rained during the night but clearing now. Great football yesterday but today will be beach day

Son made trip yesterday so all is complete, great food last night slept well and now time to start breakfast. Top of the morning to all

The beach, great idea. We should carve out a day to make an excursion to the coast now that the tourist hordes are winding down.

59 and cloudy skies this Morning turning sunny later with a high of 77. I might have to cut the Grass today.

Morning, all. 75* with 96% humidity at the moment. Looking for mid 90s this afternoon, which is a nice break from the triple digits we have been seeing most of the month. Slight chance of rain this afternoon, which means no chance of rain this afternoon. Hoping we'll get some soon. Everything is brown.

Should be a low key day today. At least that's what I have planned. Who knows what SWMBO has planned for me.

72F and no rain last 24 hours

Back to building gates for the pool fence.

Be safe
Have a great day

Hey Drew. Have to be honest here, the weight loss was more a secondary benefit. I had finally reached the point where the health stuff was of prime importance. Of course I probably should have made that connection BEFORE two knee replacements!!!! Oh well. I do have to admit that when I had my initial cardio consult last week the look on the Doc face was priceless when I answered the weight loss/gan this past year question. Between my bike and treadclimber I'm expecting good results from my stress test in 3 weeks. Not quite a sunny morning, but this view from my bike does help :)

Dave1949, what beach do you go to? We had a great view the length of Long Sands in York Beach when I lived there. Still mind boggling that 20k house sold a few years ago for 1.3 million. Naturally, someone else benefitted LOL

Good morning ...

76F and mostly cloudy here it looks like ...

Rained last night a good bit ... right about the time I wanted to come back down to the house to grab a bite to eat of course.

Been having some issues with the display on my laptop ... the backlight is a little flakey ... doesn't always light up. I think it may be a bad inverter board ... which I need to order and replace.

Got on a bit of a tear over the last couple of days ...

Did a 24 hour straight stint from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon before I just couldn't go anymore and went comatose ...

I had kept putting off addressing/handling this little horror show:

IMG_1467.jpg

... because of how late in the day I've been getting up (lack of daylight) ...

Finally just pulled the van - which has an inverter with a 770 Amp Hour auxiliary battery bank in it - up to the shed to power some lights and went for it ...

It was dark outside by the time I had the new panel mounted and the interior lights wired back up ... but it was pretty easy really and went fairly well. I still have some loose ends to tie up ... including installing a ground rod ... but the good news is that the compressor and the welder will have heir own dedicated circuit breakers and outlets and not have to "share":

IMG_1481.jpg

I think it may be time to consider relocating the entrance location of the water supply though ...

Got the old dump cart frame moved inside and started to cut it up with the plasma cutter ... so I could reuse the steel for the grapple, the saw horses, and a couple of other things ... even picked up a pair of proper torch/brazing goggles with a #5 shade to keep from frying my eyes ...

IMG_1483.jpg

... and then the wife called ...

After that I got one trigger pull on the plaz before it fried itself ...

Apparently, there are a couple of resistors on the circuit board which control the pilot arc which are prone burning out ...

Should hopefully be about a $10 fix ... but it will require desoldering the old resistors off the PCB and soldering new ones on ... something I've never done before ...

I'll have to see if I can source the appropriate resistors tomorrow, as I really need the cutter operational ... besides cutting up the dump cart frame, I have several good-sized pieces of 1/4" plate to cut ... and I sure don't want to do all that with the Sawzall ...

I did cut 3 pieces of 1 1/2" x .25" square tube off the dump cart frame last night ... and it was pretty slow going ...

Really don't want to use a grinder and a zip disc ... because of how much dust it will create and the all the stuff that's still lying around which has not been put away.

Got a little done on getting the tool stands for the vise and the tubing/roller bender put together.

Tacked the top plate on the vise stand:

Probably Wells or Ogunquit, we used to live in Wells. Stroll the beach, take in the ocean air and the sound of the waves, have some seafood. Try to stay awake on the way home. :)

Ya, beach real estate can be crazy. Lake front homes are pricey too. Too rich for my blood.

We owned a camp on Cold Steam Pond up by Enfield (north of Bangor about 35 miles) for a couple years. Decided that wasn't where we wanted to retire and unless that was our primary home, the expense as a second home was a lot to carry. Sold it for $40K more than we paid and probably couldn't afford to buy it now, the prices just keep climbing it seems.

It will pay to get a low wattage iron. Very fine braided copper wire dipped in flux will soak up melted solder making it easy to remove the resistor wires and leave a clean hole in the PCB. Hold the fluxed copper braided wire down on the solder joint and apply the iron on top of the braid. Move the braided wire to a clean section as needed. Be gentle and don't overheat.

If you don't have fine braided copper:
