A frost again this morning, though it didn't take long for the sun to chase it away, transforming the house roof from cold white crystal to steaming black slate by the time I got back for breakfast.

Hope everyone else can soon say goodbye to winter too.

With 2" of rain this morning I had to utilize the AWD of the Subaru and travel through lots of water and mud and make detours to get the ingredients from town to make Sweet Potato Brownies. Eric, have you heard of her, she is from your side of the pond? Sweet Potato Brownies | Deliciously Ella

Her cookbook is #1 in the UK and #4 on US Amazon. Pretty good considering its "healthy" plant based.

Delicious Ella ? My dentist recommends an occasional piece of eye candy instead of sugary food - think he would approve on both scores.

29F, mid-40's today and low around freezing tonight. Could get some real melting going today and tomorrow when it doesn't take half the day to get above freezing.

The 5-8 inches of snow is still in the Saturday forecast. Saturday is Town Meeting day. I don't think there are any contentious issues this year.

I'd say Ella is pretty too.

30 out this AM, hit 65 yesterday. That was uncalled for. Major melt. Have serious ponding in the pastures. Driveway is mush. More rain expected this week. Today as a matter of fact. Lots of water for this time of year.

40 heading to 60 with rain.

Birds are starting to sing their springtime songs and bluebirds are staking out their houses.

Taking Coco to the vet early this morning for checkup and inflamed paw - maybe too much hiking on icy snow. Then hit the gym and grocery store.

That's a long time to be stuck in traffic.
I've been in a few jams where everything is at a complete standstill and after a while people turn the engines off, get out and start talking to one another. Becomes quite a social event until someone finally spots the traffic moving up ahead and it's then a scramble to get back up the road into your own vehicle. Does that happen in the States ?

Eric, that's been my experience getting stuck on I-95 and on the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel a few times. I've seen tailgate parties form.

I am a GM guy, but we bought a new Jeep Patriot for my wife. She loves it, and I was surprised at the features for the price. A small 4x4 for $23K.

The 4WD Latitude version looks interesting. For small to mid-size it's always a question of how flat do the rear seats fold. By the pics online they don't look too bad.

What made you choose the Patriot over an Chevy Equinox or GMC Terrain?

good morning all, reporting in from Milton Delaware, a nice small town inland from Lewes Delaware, fairly near the coast. Got the table loaded up after a very trying day, including an amazingly incompetent UHaul dealer who after five swipes of my credit card, could not get the paper work right. I finally gave him a check. He also checks out airplanes at the little airport where the rental trucks were; wouldn't want this guy giving directions for any flight tower for sure.

rain predicted here today so I think I'm going to have a wet ride home. Ok, wash a little of the salt off the truck. Should take about six hours taking my time and oh so much less traffic. 75 degrees expected in Washington, nice day to go home to. And maybe those tree holes may have drained out by now and I can plant the last 11 trees before it rains again.

Always fun to visit family and friends, always good to get home.

Got coffee brewing. 60° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 83° with lots of sun. Another day to spend on the patio. But wife wants to go shopping. That should take a good part of the day.
Good Morning All.

Good morning! 50˚, cloudy, the rain has stopped after 3" yesterday. There is a bill in the Texas legislature to eliminate daylight savings time - I support it.

Thanks for the report. No motor home towing to worry about. The CRV is rated #1 by Car and Driver in that class. We have good Dodge-Jeep dealer in town. The new Cherokee is interesting but has no track record yet, rated #12. The Grand Cherokee is probably a safe bet but pricey. I haven't been able to interest Sharon in a Wrangler Unlimited. :D

We also have a Honda CRV. This one is 2 years old and is a lot quieter on fast roads than the previous model.
Probably the best car I ever had if you value the quality of the engineering and manufacturing, live down a dirt track road in winter and like to eat the miles on longer journeys in really comfortable seats.

On the downside the ground clearance is getting less with each new model, so now almost useless off road for anything other than a flat field.
The trend to raise the height of the body panels along the doorline and bonnet also do it no favours in practicality, make parking in tight spaces a little more difficult.
Rear vision is great though with the rear camera.

We like the Honda.

We also have an 11 year old Subaru Forester that gets all the trips into town and around the fields.
Probably made to an even better standard than the Honda and is great to drive on rural roads and pot holed tracks.

We love the Subaru.

A friend has just placed an order for the new Jeep Renegade.
They look as though they won't easily get stuck and not too big for shorts trips to town. Could be almost as much fun as a wrangler for you - not sure how Sharon would rate it .

I would support a bill to get away from Daylight Savings Time. If we were on Daylight Savings Time year around.

Good morning all! 33 this morning but the promise of a beautiful 53 degree afternoon forced me to ride my bike to work. Almost qualifies as a tractor with these tires... Office Bike.JPG

Thanks for your input.

Another vote for Honda. Things are laid out here with more room, usually enough to easily park a full size pickup. The space for a CRV isn't a concern.

Subaru is a popular car around here too, Forester and Outback models mostly. We don't do off-road/field driving--until our roads get bad enough between pavings to be like fields. A good 4WD is most useful in winter and some reasonable road clearance helps with snow. I much prefer true 4X4 to some AWD implementations for snow and ice but the Subarus seem to get along fine.

I haven't seen the new Renegades yet.

We are just getting started at looking. You know how that goes, before you know it you are signing papers. :D

The radiator showed up for the Ford today so that is getting worked on today. We're not sure yet if we are keeping it for awhile or selling it if we get a new car.

50 this morning and headed to 60 today. Only snow left is in piles after about an inch of rain last night. Still raining and forecast says it will all day. Rivers are rising the local one is about 7 feet above flood stage but I crossed it down stream from the gauge yesterday and it was still in the banks. But there's two dams between the crossing and the gauge. No major flooding yet sounds like a lot but above the gauge it has a few spotted homes and cabins and thousands of acres of farmland to back out on.

Ron I'm with you as long as they leave us on daylight savings time then they can keep the change.

Dave. I too am a GM guy. Wife had a 05 trailblazer. It started nickel and diming us at 175000 miles. We traded it. Bought at 39000 so we put most the miles on it. It was 4wd but that 4.2 loves gas. Think the Terrain is its replacement. Biggest repair was the vent to the gas tank clogged and the thermostat went out. Other than that it was a couple of batteries and sets of tires. Did have to replace front shocks. I was impressed with the way it held up. We traded for an 11 Tahoe last fall. Only complaint so far is its 2wd. But wife's response was "we have your truck" when we bought it. But after almost 3 feet of snow this winter she wants her 4wd back. Lot better fuel mileage than the trailblazer.

Know some people with the traverse but they bought the front wheel drive versions and had to park then this winter because of snow depth and resort back to their 4wd pickups.

Good luck with your search.

Good morning all. 40F this morning and rain. Storm swerved enough north to hit us square. Don't have the rain gauge out yet. Rain should end this morning and a high of 59F. Still working on table, won't open and close freely so it is program creep time. Rode the 10 speed 13 miles yesterday needs a couple of tweaks but it rode well. Interesting how much faster it is than the Trek for the same effort.
