I'll bookmark that site. Love the name. Thanks for the tip. I don't recall where the PC came from, it's been several years, but I think it was an internet purchase.

The local Ag extension charges $15 per sample. It would be a good way to know if the readings are consistent in one spot at least.

Had good luck with test strips from Lowes. Put down two tons of lime each year on one and one half acres of grass from these test results. Been working for 15 years and the lime is a good sweetner for the acidic soil we have.
We are Apple users except for payroll I phones , I pads , Macs etc. Good products in our minds whatever mind we have left

Thanks, that's good to know. I'll see what the local hardwares have. Our poor soils tend to be acidic here too.

Thanks guys for the welcome back ... clearly I've missed quite a bit of what's been going on with everyone. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up and follow this thread a little more closely from here on out ... but with all that's going on at the moment it will be a challenge.

The woman and I did some running around today and we stopped by the local drainage supply place to pick up some 4" solid PVC to move the discharge from a couple of downspouts a little further away from the house.

Since one of the discharge outlets is going to wind up in the general vicinity of a 4" 1500+ psi gas transmission line, I think I'll give the Call Before You Dig guys a shout in the morning ...

We also managed to get some more leaves picked up around the polebarn this afternoon ... mostly just right in front is all that's left now, which shouldn't be too bad. Once that's done I'll be able to start finishing up the exterior grading for real.

Care to elaborate? I try to keep up on the latest exploits, but I just skimmed the security section of the MacInTouch site and found only the DHS problem, which seems to require physical access to the machine. What am I missing?

Don't want to start any arguments or debates or anything, but with the most recent completed year (2014) they took the top spot in GFI's vulnerability counts. Just in the news a week ago was this article on Reg. There are frequently articles about various things that affect Macs, more often than one would think for no more of them than what there are. Funny thing is, Mac sites are some of the last to ever report an issue (you hafta get outta the circle some). :)

Macs have had a lack of market share to keep them from being a target previously. As they become more popular and affordable, more issues will continue to arise. As of now, they command almost 6% of the estimated 10 billion desktop computers in operation today, which is as high as they have ever been and they are growing rapidly. Many exploits coming out now are attacking Java and Flash and other cross-OS components and are able to infect Windows Linux and Mac.

With Windows you end up with more available support tools and methods, as well as more security and prevention methods. I just don't see the attraction with spending more now to buy something that will cost more later too (in both support cost and aggravation). As someone who has followed the trends for a living for the past 25 years, it just seems to be going a bad direction for the general user...

All that being said, Macs are great computers and their software has many beneficial uses in several industries and hobby fields; there are many reasons to own one (I do, but I use it only for the tasks that require it). But to go buy one simply to escape the crapware installed on the average home desktop PC is a little over the top (cost and hassle). It is much simpler and less expensive to purchase a business model from the manufacturer without all that stuff, or run a simple free program like pcdecrapifier. There is no way I'd advise anyone to just be willy-nilly surfing the web on a Mac.

I look at it sort of like having more than one hammer. Some hammers can be used for all sorts of things, some hammers are for a specific function and shouldn't be used for many things. Neither is better, it is just what are each better suited for...

Came home early feeling a bit out of sorts yesterday. Took my usual remedy, Theraflu. Good stuff, but puts me to sleep for 8-10 hours. I feel much better now...

It's 39 right now...high today will be 73...a bit warmer than yesterday's high.

Good morning all.
We are set for a day of sunshine and light cloud. Not too hot, forecast for a high of 14C/57F, but that will be just about right when I'm walking around with a knapsack spray on my back. I have 2 fields with clumps of nettles to knock down before they can be grazed. We try to remove nettles because if we don't and a lamb is taken sick, it can stay hidden in the nettles until it dies.

My preference is for an old fashioned finger operated mouse, but hey, these are free countries. If others use different body parts to search with their touch screens, who am I to say that's disgusting. :)

I agree with Sysops reasoning on the general merits of Apple & Microsoft.
I use both for engineering development work and not sure which one I will stick with when I fully retire.

Most machines running Microsoft windows are pretty good. Most Apple stuff is pretty AND good.

Poured a cup of coffee. 48° with rain this morning. Heading to 74° with clearing skies. Need to cut lawn later again. Visit with family was good. Plu my uncle is selling some of his wood working tools. Picked up a nice 14" band saw.
Joe, thanks for the app. It selected 6 of the programs I planned to remove in one step. I have Apple phones, Amazon Kindles and PC's. All selected for my life style. Apple PC's are out of my price range. Removing unwanted apps is cheap for me because most of the time it's free.
Good Morning All.

43F. Mid-70's today with a light breeze.

Sharon & Sira are down in Portland for a dog activity today and tomorrow. I think I will ease back into rock picking in the field for a while today.

Have a good one. Roy, hope you don't have the crud that has been going around. RS, good to hear from you and about your exploits.

48 out mid-70's today. Heading on a road trip, going to get another kid set-up for college. Worked on crown molding in a room yesterday. The outside corners are always a challenge for me. Angles and math, not good at that. Any tricks for getting it right? Remember this old farm house, nothing is square.

42 This morning, bright and crisp. Off to Lebanon this morning to meet the new Boss. Lots of developments on the employment front. My youngest Daughter just was hired to teach at our hometown school for next school year. The school she is teaching at this year is closing down due to low enrollment. Good that she could make the switch this early and not have to worry about it over the summer.

48 heading to 78.

Had 6 hours of seat time yesterday, planting, fertilizing and dragging 4 food plots. Dave, the Cosmo 500 did the spreading job well. But I'm with you...when I plant clover or chicory or other small seeds, I walk with a hand spreader. Use the 3pt spreader for lime, fertilizer, sunflowers, buckwheat, beans and peas.

Happy birthday Gary!

Good to see you back, RS.

Had two blacksnakes mating in our paulownia tree and they fell to the ground making a big thump. Unfortunately, by the time I got my phone for a pic, they were separated and heading for cover.

62 headed for 78 today.
House guests still sleeping in; they have an 8 hour drive to Atlanta today and I think after driving all day yesterday,
and enjoying a little too much wine last night, they are sleeping soundly.
they are driving in their Honda Pilot they bought new eons ago, 130K miles on it, and Wayne said it drives just like new. No wind whistles, creaks or noises. New Michelins last year helped but that car is remarkably reliable. An SUV before they got supersized. He would like to replace it but hard to justify. He keeps it waxed and nice, so he says he'll have to wait a little longer for a new car with tons of buzzers and nannies.

The front of my new truck has sonar sensors, like the rear. Haven't paid attention to what that looks like, but I was chuckling, I'd like a setup, camera included, like that on my FEL so I can see when I'm about to touch.
I've decided that if I can take this truck and parallel park it in downtown Washington, which is all parallel park, and with all these sensors, if I can do without great hassle (the dually was impossible without two consecutive spots) I am considering selling the 2014 Avalon I have and just own one vehicle. One thing for sure, that Toyota V6 in that car is both surprisingly powerful and economical, as when I turn off the car after running an errand downtown, I've usually recorded 25-27mpg.
The truck will likely get 17 in the same scenario. It has an 8 speed auto plus cylinder deactivation so at least in steady state driving, it gets fair mileage. Letting it rip through the gears and hear the hemi burble, well, c'est la vie.

still need my mid life crisis car. Before I get too old...
something small, not a motorcycle, with lots of hp.

Gary, it's probably one of yours... but:

The other day at the Concord NH weather vane they wanted over $40 for wicked twins. I passed on them.
