Correct me if I'm wrong but a moderately priced car for a teen is under 25K the vehicles with eyesight, lane departure, auto brake, adaptive cruise control etc. are on the top of the line models which are over 30K.

So a good question for the day, thanks to riptides, what is a moderately priced car for a teen and as a parent are you obligated to buy a top of the line model with all the safety devices for their protection?
If you don't, does that make you a bad parent?

It makes you a richer parent. The kids want a car? The kids can buy and pay for it. Give them a bicycle, they can get some exercise too boot. Like my Dad told me, you have a car you will never have any money. Payments + tires + fuel + insurance + plates + gas ++++++++ the list just goes on and on.

Boy, that's no kidding. My Wife promised her sons she's buy them each a car, and she did. Oldest one was appreciative and took care of his until he could trade up. Youngest one is already on his third truck in less than two years. He's costing us a small fortune because he wrecked the first one five weeks in, drove the second one into the ground in about a year, and is doing the same with the third one (bought by his dad this time). He turns 18 in March, and knows his days of free vehicles is coming to an end.

When I turned 18, my parents co-signed for a personal loan for me to buy my first car - a used '68 Dodge Van from the music store where I had worked delivering pianos. Payments, insurance, gas, and maintenance were all on me. A life lesson.

Good Morning! 41F @ 8:00AM. Still no Internet, but the installer's supposed to show up in an hour.

Deafening silence still from Terminex.

Probably too early yet to hire an attorney, but the right time to start looking for one.

Started a trouble ticket with Verizon yesterday about lousy cell reception at the house. I'm supposed to hear back in 1-4 days. Only had to work through one lower level of support, and even that person was knowledgeable and spoke English as a native language. Unlike Exede, the old satellite service, who's support folks struggled to make themselves understood and were definitely reading scripts they didn't understand.

Rounded up and cleaned all the little bits and fasteners for the pop top install on the van, and will be heading to town with it in the back of the truck as soon as the Internet install is done. Once there I'm supposed to get some help installing a headliner in the thing, then mounting it on the van. Fingers crossed!

Hang in there, gang, Friday's coming!

Wife has a friend from high school who is an attorney, and has handled her LLC setup. She's already begun talking to her about our options. Hate having to go this route, but ...

68°F and no rain since midnight.

Repaired a LaZ Boy type recliner yesterday that had been abused. Not earth shattering or as ambitious as RNG but rewarding. Just took way longer than I anticipated.

Be safe
Have a great day.

9F here this morning, should be stable a day or 2 before the next storm. Next Wednesday, it is supposed to be in the mid 40s with rain. If that happens, we will see roofs collapse locally. There are many that have near the limits now and if the rains come, it will get very heavy quick.

Regarding cars for kids, we provided while they lived at home, including gas, insurance, etc while they were in school. The oldest drove her car until just a month or so ago (she turns 30 this year) and sold it to get a minivan (much easier for kids). The middle daughter still has her truck and plans on keeping it forever, she got a 96 Suburban to drive so the pickup didn't get so many miles. The youngest is still driving her car and paying for gas, etc.

RNG! I have Dish Network internet service, coupled with Dish TV. I get 10 gB of anytime data and another 10 gB of "off peak" data (2a.m-8a.m.). My account page never shows any "off peak" data usage even though the majority of my usage is before 8 a.m? I've called them several times and always received unresponsive answers. "Yeah, that is a known problem". "We're working on that". Then they give me an additional 5 gB of anytime data which goes away, if not used, by the end of the monthly cycle. My cost is $60/month plus $10 for each additional 1 gB of data I purchase.

I looked at the HughesNet web site yesterday after your initial post on this but, was surprised at Hughe's slow D/L & U/L speeds? This seems to be a lot slower than the speeds I'm getting here? Am I missing something? I'd like to have more data but, slower speeds would seem to offset that?

Is this what you're promised from a Hughes?

Thanks for your guidance.

A law suit is definitely the last resort, but there are things that should be done now to document the damages and advise the termite contractor such that work on the remodel can continue even if the termite folks continue to stonewall you. A letter from the attorney outlining a path forward per the termite contract and your needs on the remodel might get the ball rolling, but if not would serve as evidence that you'd done your due dillegence before repairing and covering up the damage.

I'd be surprised, though, if there weren't some exemption for pre-existing termite damage in the contract that would basically let the termite contractor off Scott free. The attorney could help out there, too.

My first vehicle right after Dad told me about the no money thingy, was a 1950 Ford 4 door. Cost me a whole $50.oo and I drove it for a year. The floor wasn't in the best shape when I bought it and was non-existant when I drove it to the scrap yard. There were no safety checks in those days. We are talking 1963 here. It started, it ran, all the lights worked and when you stepped on the brake pedal it stopped. That was the safety check.

No, but for $1500 more it has the electronic package with some of the warnings.

Our son was 16 in 1992, our daughter in 1996, he got a1985 Olds Firenza GT hatchback, she got a 1988 Cavalier Z24 convertible. Both were red, sporty, scoops, spoilers, stripes, nice throaty exhaust note from those 2.8 V6 monsters, putting out 125 h.p, each, got about 23 mpg, might have had $4000 in both, total, insurance was cheap and they were happy.

A beautiful 67° here all afternoon, I treated the ladies to my gorgeous legs today, but did wear a sweatshirt.

Today is Lynn's 65th birthday, off to the Old West Steakhouse with some of the family. I'm having the tropical salad.

Happy Birthday Lynne too.
spring for a nice dessert there Toppop...

Don, I thought I read you could get a new Chevy Cruze with the adaptive cruise/auto stop feature but I don't know which model. I'm sure the price leaders don't have them.

27 here in mid Michigan. Nothing better for the weekend. Got a bunch of little things done today, had to go to the township to go over the personal property tax for my wife's shop. Need to fill out another form, but no more $$. I had lunch with my contractor neighbor, he's had some health issues, is the same age as I am, and is basically retired. I welcomed him to the clan....:) Then off to the feed mill for chicken feed, home to take care of the birds, fueled up the tractor, then worked in the shop for awhile.

Happy birthday, Lynne!
