No bears here, thankfully. No hedgehogs either.
?????...

Well that doesn't seem fair. ;)

We don't have much in the way of large dangerous animals around here. Coyotes are about the biggest, and they're not much of a threat to humans. We have some bobcats. There have been some reports over the last few years that indicate cougars are returning to Illinois, but they are few and far between.

Our biggest problems are the pesky critters like skunks, possums, and groundhogs. There are a pair of raccoons that sweep through the barn pretty much every night, about the only activity I get on the game cameras.

I planted horseradish in my garden 30 years ago. A major mistake. It took me 25 years to "almost" eradicate it.

I worked on a horseradish farm for a few years in my 20s. There truly is nothing like fresh horseradish.

".... There truly is nothing like fresh horseradish."- Paul

Definitely a  experience. The bottled product available in supermarkets is too mild for my taste.

I still am finding sprouts in my field. I advised a bud not to plant horseradish in his garden. He did not listen and ultimately abandoned the garden. It began a burn pit.

Yikes! we have two rattlesnakes in the garden, a big one and a little one. For some unknown reason the person spotting them did not get them removed. Now I'm on full snake alert, again.

Drew the three collard plants given to me a month ago ave been producing leaves like crazy. We have had 4 meals of them with beans, rice and cornbread. One meal consist of 10 - 10" leaves with stems. It looks like we will have another 8-10 meals before they are out. I did not like collard greens till my wife fixed them using this recipe.

Without Instant Pot:

1/2 yellow onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
2-3 cups vegetable broth
3 drops liquid smoke
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 lbs collard greens
black pepper
hot sauce

Saute onions and garlic, add vegetable broth, add greens and simmer for 1- 1 1/2 hours. add hot sauce or vinegar if desired.

With instant Pot:
Use the saute setting to brown the onions and reduce vegetable broth to 1 cup and pressure cook for 10 minutes.

How many meals of collards do you have? Each plant should produce at least 5 meals for two people.

thanks for recipes Don. I will give them to food pantry kitchen lady to try out.
volunteer left, 9 boxes filled between she and I, enough for me, got 3 out of 7 rows done.
Promptly got the Super A out and cultivated the just picked rows, pics later, and heading back to get tractor
again for one last row to cultivate.

My helper picked all the radishes, and was talking about horseradish too. Fresh horseradish makes the best cocktail sauce for shrimp, need to get some noise quivering action going on...
Apparently it's like asparagus, once you plant it, you've got it for a long time.

Ate a pbj for lunch and headed back out in sunshine and blue sky.

PJ, bet those speaker stands put a smile on your face, get the speakers elevated to the right spot and off the floor.
Cleaner bass.
And now starring, in the TBN band, we have PJ on the bass guitar, Toppop on the sax, Buckeye on the ?

Yeah, it's a hearty plant. Horseradish is replanted by taking the sprouts off the sides of the main root and replanting them. So, if any of those break off when you're digging them out of the ground, they'll grow into new plants. They can be tough to eradicate.

We've had a few always growing in one spot of our yard. For a long while, there was also one coming up at the same isolated spot on our orchard as well, but either pigs dug it out, or getting grazed down by the goats and sheep did it in.

Kids, wife are all fine. Gloria started walking several weeks before her first birthday this month.

I need to try with the dSLR to get a good sunset photo. The phone camera doesn't cut it. IMG_20190418_194310680_HDR.jpegIMG_20190418_194457740.jpeg

Now if it can just stay organized... I've tried and tried to catch the person that gets the shop so messy....I'm gonna have to get some cameras set up....

Whoever it is, they've been in my barn too.... I hope you catch 'em.

Your diet has accomplished nearly the same thing IMO.

But, you could always use it for a........wait for it.........a backup plan!

Bears on the loose on the east coast, along with some new flies. Be careful

Glad to hear from you Andrew.

Jay, I can relate to a glacial pace. Get better. Bear and Brogen does not sound like a happy encounter.

PJ, my buddy had his 2 year old grandson have to stay with them for about a month. He's had to keep all his instruments in the closet to keep them safe. The kid and parents finally got a job transfer and moved out. He got some self music time finally yesterday. It calms the savage breast of man IMO. Although my daughter with misophonia thinks otherwise.

We got quite a storm last night with about 2" rain. Nice a cool this AM.

Don, nice wooden toys. Someone put some time into them.

Wife was kind enough to put a warning label on the almonds in my lunch today. And, you know what they say about stupid warning labels ... they exist because some idiot tried it. :D

So far, so good.
