Good evening all. 74F this morning, cloudy, windy. Winds gusty most of the day, mostly cloudy to overcast all day high temp 88F HI 96. Choir practice to start day, the sand burr removal, and lawn mowing. Nap after shower. More sand burr removal needed and also need to put down pre-emergent to slow the weeds down.

The company wanting to put the disposal waste well site next to my Mom's is running into some difficulty. I got a letter from the Railroad Commission, because I'm on the protestor list, that they will have to re-file their application because of 12 errors. Because of this the 15 day window to file a protest has opened up again and more people in the area can file a written protest. I think this is the first disposal well for this company - they just formed in April and labeled this as Well #1. I have a low confidence that they will be in an economic position to clean up any accidents on the site.

Thanks for posting about this. I hope you can foul them up enough to stop them. Please keep us posted. Why is it that almost nobody posts about what they end up getting out of pipeline easements? Is there a confidentiality clause?

Very nice. Bring your boat down here and enjoy it another month (or more). Hottest September on record. But you watch, it will go from record heat to freezing in day or 2, robbing us of fall. We have 2 seasons here, summer and Christmas.

You win the imagination award for today's posts, Eric. :laughing: One thing I learned yesterday was that wet lead acid batteries give off hydrogen when they're being charged, so it's important to locate them in a well ventilated area that is free of sparks. The sealed AGM batteries that have been specified for the system here don't seem to have that problem, though, so colocating them with the generator might still be possible. Originally they were going to go in the pump house, and I think the electric motor in there would raise a similar concern.:shocked: More homework needed.

RNG, We have many battery scientists at work. Many say to try to stay away from battery backup, unless you are totally off grid. Just not cost effective....but if you do, remember I have a Yanmar L10 10hp 28volt DC generator in my barn, just waiting for a special person like you. Supposedly, It monitors the batteries and starts automatically to charge them. It uses the same batteries for starter power. These are great little engines, but don't confuse them for the Chinese knockoffs.

Today is Sophie’s and mine 36th anniversary. Not quite up there with some of you guys and not always peaches and cream, but I sure am blessed.

Town later to HD, brewery, Happy Hour with friends otherwise not sure what the day will yield.

A pipeline has power granted by the state to take the land with reasonable compensation. Eminent Domain.

This disposal well does not have Eminent Domain, the property owner voluntarily agrees to the lease or it will not happen. In this case the property owner did agree. The drilling company is requesting a permit for 20,000 to 30,000 barrels A DAY to inject the oil, gas and saltwater waste into the ground about 200' from my mom's property. Unverified rumors say the property owner usually gets 5 cents a barrel. The disposal well site does not have any size requirements, so a piece of land just big enough for the rig is all that is needed.

I would build a pig farm upwind of their home. With a motocross track too. Mufflers not allowed.

Good morning. Woke up several times last night to the sound of rain on the roof. Weather forecaster announced a change in the weather, an end to getting soaked by rain from the South. Today we get soaked from the North :confused3:


Don, "Eminent Domain" sounded to me like the title of one of Drew's sci-fi books, not something I have come across before. Thanks for the explanation.

I guess the worst parts of the disposal well is the coming and going of the trucks, and the noise they make pumping in the disposal salt water. One small side effect I don't like is, the trucks carry small stones onto the paved highway which get flung by tires in the air and cause window breakages and such.

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around that much volume being pumped in there. Is there a limit as to how much they can put in it? Time period?

Don, must be one of them only in TX things. I would hope that would not happen here in Michigan. But we do have communities that have garbage dumps almost in middle of town.

Happy International Coffee Day. I see that Ron is celebrating. Me, too.

68 going to 87. Finally got some light rain yesterday, almost a quarter of an inch.

Hiked Coco in the park down to the river...trail completely covered in yellow and brown leaves along much of it...early since so dry.. Felt good when it started to sprinkle on us.

Cut on the spotlights just before 6am...skunk in front yard...by the time I got back with a gun, it was gone...searched for 20 minutes with a flashlight.

Eric, our U.S. Constitution has a Bill of Rights, that gives protection to private property (5th Amendment), however it allows the government to take private land after just compensation for purposes of public use (eminent domain). Public use is generally used for roads, schools, etc, but has been stretched for many uses over the years, including where some cities have taken land with houses from their owners to give to other developers to build bigger houses or condo projects.

I know the retailers try to get a jump on the new seasons, but I was surprised day before yesterday (yep, 9/29/2019) when I went into our nearest Walmart and saw all the Christmas trees and Christmas decorations already on display.

And with another day, today, with a low of 79 degrees this morning, going for a high of 93 (same as yesterday), I'm jealous of those of you who already have nice, cool weather.

And last month, I got a grand total of .01" of rain for the month. Hot and dry is not the kind of weather I like.

Yep, Walmart had up Christmas stuff for at least a week here. Not even Halloween yet.

We had a very dry August here, Bird, at only 0.02" of rain, but September had four rainy days and 0.82", as well as moderating temperatures. Almost every day in August saw highs in the 90s, where September had "only" half the days that warm. The trend looks to continue into October, as the ten day forecast shows neither rain nor any highs in the 90s. Fall, what a relief!

Apparently there's a new concern about the drug Zantac, with the active ingredient ranitidine, which inhibits the production of acid in the stomach. My allergist just prescribed it for me, and I just purchased a supply of the Kirkland brand from Costco. The Canadians have already issued a recall for certain brands, but the Kirkland supplier, Perrigo, as issued a fairly mealy mouthed response, indicating it will do additional testing. Think I'll take a wait and see approach, and delay the start of my new therapy. I can live with heartburn, I can't live with cancer.

A few years ago I started boycotting retailers that put Christmas decorations out before Thanksgiving. I no longer shop at Lowes, and it sounds like Walmart should be on the list, too. Any others?

Take it easy with that sander and paint brush, Drew. That job sounds like another one to be savored, taken in small doses over a period of many days. Especially considering your bum neck and wrists.

Those disposal wells are the price we're paying for cheap oil, Don; that waste has to go somewhere. You have every right to be concerned about the quality of your mother's well water, though. Is there any provision in what's been proposed for ongoing monitoring of her water quality? Or compensation if there's an earthquake, another possible by product of waste water injection?

No work on the propane terrace yesterday, it was damp and cool out, not good tractor weather. So I read some more of the fire truck manual, and learned enough that I'll have to piece together a Standard Operating Procedure of my own. The book I have covers several models of pump and transmission, so I need to dig out the parts that apply to my truck and put them down all in one place for it to make any sense at all.:confused2:

One small advance, though, getting in touch with an electrician that says he has experience with solar power systems. He's supposed to come over this afternoon and take a look at what's been proposed. Also took a look at what the local electric utility, PG&E, wants in the way of documentation before it'll approve an interconnect. To their credit, I found a presentation that walks you through their web based forms, which I think will be a big help. But there's gonna be lots of digging, and not with the backhoe, to pull all of what the want together. Good thing I don't have anything else to do, huh?
