Coffee is done brewing. 51ー with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 56ー with mostly cloudy skies. Did not get much done yesterday. Rain until late afternoon. Today will have some winds that I should not be working in while on a 12' ladder. But would like to get pole barn new electrical service done today.

Roy, hope your feeling better.

Drew, "Nearly eleven o'clock," said Pooh happily. "You're just in time for a little smackerel of something."

Thomas, first full day of retirement. Enjoy!

Buckeye, I have had Dish and Direct TV over the years. Do not miss it. My cable is not flawless but works much better than either of the dish company's. Hope you get it fixed to get good reception.

Payers for all in need.

Good Morning All.

These are for Mostly:

I'm about 20 blocks short on the right side where the terrace was widened. Probably pick those up at HD tomorrow while I'm in town running errands.

I still need to get some gravel behind the wall to help support it, then gravel the rest of the terrace. But I'll need to order a truck load of gravel first.

That's a lot of wall blocks. I have similar around house. I thought instruction said to only stack them 3' high. Maybe higher if no frost. Mine have been up for about 20 years. Got a little over a 1000 of them.

RNG are there "deadman" in the taller wall, the blocks we used needed "deadman" after 4 feet of height. Nice looking wall.

No deadman here, Mostly, unless it's me after moving all those blocks.

The taller portion of that wall has been there since 2011, so I don't think it's going anywhere. I might get some static from a building department inspector, though, I think they have a 4' height restriction before a permit is needed.

RNG, is that fuzzy beige grass at your place the natural groundcover? Looks like it would burn super easily.
Perhaps time to investigate flame retardant shrubbery...

Most of California gets no rain from late may until October, and I don't have the water or desire to keep what you see green. What's left of the grass is what came up after the fire wiped out the rye/barley/red clover erosion control mix I nursed for a couple of years after the lot was bulldozed. Now it's mostly weeds. The stuff within 100' of the house is kept mowed pretty short and doesn't have enough heat if burned to do any damage, but it will conduct a flame to something that will burn. I'm going to try spreading pre-emergent herbicide in that 100' band this fall to see if I can keep the fuel load down and hopefully avoid having to mow it. I'm getting too old for tractoring on slippery slopes.

Hitting the wilderness early. We will be in waist high grass/weeds so it's a snake boot day as we mark the new hiking trail. I was just about to give my snake boots to Goodwill when we moved thinking I would never have to wear those again. But I'm too frugal and after I remembered how much I paid for them I could not let them depart, good thing.

Glad your wife likes all those buzzers and whistles, Don. I no longer have the patience for that sort of foolishness.

Also glad you hung onto your boots. Never throw anything away!

Are you using any kind of bug spray to keep the ticks off you in that tall grass?

Your blocks came with instructions?

When I dug that terrace, the ground was so hard the backhoe would barely cut it. I had to raise the boom up into the air and slam it into the ground before it would bite. I would have liked to get down another foot or so, but I hit rock and had to give up. I probably didn't need to use blocks at all, but my miserable backhoe skills left the hillside looking like it got a very bad haircut.

Before you know it retirement will be knocking on your door....believe me us. :)

When dad retired, he said he didn’t know how he found time to work, he was so busy on the farm.

Hope your first day of retirement is great, sure it will be.
