At least they're not calling you an OGOAT (Old GOAT)
I know those kinds of places aren't cheap, and wonder if you couldn't get the penthouse and room service at the local Hilton for a better rate?

 Or do you need close medical supervision that room service couldn't provide?
for now it's mostly pill management, and I get more than a dozen morning and night. Plus we don't know how chemo will affect me, which it is starting to, feeling tired, wanting to take naps, etc. It's all normal. RNG, I'm not going to say but when i found out what my family had signed me up for here I almost had another stroke. Yes, equivalent to a very, very nice hotel room. Next place in Pennsylvania is half the cost...
This place is less than a mile to the hospital and they van me back and forth to appointments. I expect to be here no more than three months. But one could buy a small compact car for the cost over that three months...a real motivator to get me out of here into my next spot.
one of the challenges of assisted living places is it's not just the monthly fee, or the medicine management fee, but they get you for a lump sum coming in. This place was "only" two grand, but next place is either six or twenty depending upon room I choose. Amortize that sum over say a two year period and it makes all of them seriously expensive, and getting private duty help maybe not so expensive. My initial planning was three months here, two years at next place, then off to independent living outside of ccc/assisted living environment which will greatly reduce my living cost. All depends upon my health, and getting those six month CT Scans that say you are doing fine.
If I'm not doing fine, I need backup. If I'm not doing fine, actually financially I'll do better, have a big LTCI policy that will kick in. But currently I pass all ADL requirements and am fully self sufficient. Which for sure is how I'd rather be. I say as I go back to my nap...
I had to laugh at an invite my Quaker Meeting got to be involved in a Black Lives matter function, many of which we already participate in. About 15 of our members stood quietly by the road with signs, and got mostly honks of approval, an
I Love You from a lady of color going by, and inevitably a few middle fingers.
But the initial flier announcing this stated the importance of
No Looting Or Rioting. What???
I have less than zero tolerance for folks trying to hurt others, chucking rocks, burning stuff, whatever. No question they should be arrested, nothing in their troubled past gives them a get out of jail card for that. Peaceful protest is one thing. It's part of our heritage and democracy in action, even if part of it rubs us the wrong way.
Just don't break our laws. And try to show some of the respect for others that you so passionately action for yourselves.
Kitchen made a delicious home made chicken and rice soup for lunch, gave me an extra big bowl of it, I'm still full, something different.
