Good morning all

22 now high in the mid 30’s and cloudy today. Yesterday’s flurries left around 4 or 5 inches of fluff to clean up this morning.
Happy winter solstice! Longer daylight hours will slowly be getting here.

A quick snow clean up this morning, no other plans for the day just putter around.

Hard to believe Christmas is Friday. It will be a quiet one for us, phone calls/FaceTime to family and friends. The misses ordered a small rib roast which will make me happy

Stay safe and healthy
Enjoy your day everyone

Drinking first cup of coffee. 31° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 37° with chance of snow in afternoon. Decided to do a conserve energy day yesterday. Furnace guy coming this morning. May do another day of conserve energy today.
No sure what this bird is. Hangs around with the Sparrows. Cow bird was the suggestion before.

Drew, I think I mention this before. Non of my Birdhouses/feeders have glue on them. The oldest one is over 20 years. Made with Cedar and a Copper roof. The next oldest is 10 years old. Painted Cedar roof. All my newer ones are made out of recycled plastic. Still no glue. They are held together with SS deck screws.

Don, I am in tier 2.

Eric, I was going to go to sons Christmas Eve. Not going unless furnace gets fixed. Was invited to my Aunts house Christmas day. But going to pass. To many people.

RS, every time I go shopping a HD, Lower or Menards I have to double check items I pulled out of bin is what is supposed to be in it. Same as Rural King and TSC.

:welcome: Peter 315 and tiabadoe !!

Everyone stay safe and healthy.

Good Morning All.

Good morning. It 41° here, with no wind, and our high should be around 70° this afternoon.

Today is the shortest day / longest night of the year (Winter Solstice) and should be best view of the visible alignment (Conjunction) of Jupiter and Saturn 1-2 hours after sunset. This is believed to be the "Christmas Star" and not seen since the Middle Ages?

Our cleaning lady is coming this morning so .. I'll be off to run errands by about 8:30, to stay out of her way.

We got a "recall" notice on our Kubota ZD1211 mower that I'm going to get checked out. Evidently .. a few of their radiator overflow tanks have mis-formed outlets on the bottom hose connection. The dealer says they can check it .. on the trailer so .. I won't have to unload, unless it needs to be replaced. Then .. off to Wally World to exchange a couple of propane tanks.

I'll get a few final presents wrapped .. later today .. everything ordered online and delivered on time .. or even early.

Hope everyone has a great start to your Holiday week.

Prayers to all.

When I cook only a single turkey .. I clean up my oil by filtering it thru cheese cloth a couple of times then return it to the original container and usually get a minimum of 3-4 uses out of it.

Me, too. And now we have a very small deep fryer for occasional use for such things as chicken or pork chops, etc., always include french fries, and I do the same, pour it through a double layer of cheese cloth, thoroughly wash the little deep fryer, put the filtered oil back in it, put the lid on, and put it in the shop refrigerator, so it's ready for the next use.

Good morning, the temperature is already at our high for the day...31°F and it is going down to 30. Wind S 8 mph. 60% chance of flurries.

There are no more mirror catchers at the end of the driveway. All cut back to the trunks and 4 3" trees cut off at the ground. In spring after I get the hoe back on I will pull the stumps.

I need to change the angle on my back blade, it is not cutting the way it should. I will do that today and test it out.

There are ghosts in this house, but they don't have opposable thumbs. The one cat that had thumbs (polydactal) got taken by either an eagle or an owl. He was a big fluffy orange and white cat that liked to roost with the chickens and whenever he took a chipmunk or squirrel he would climb up the edge of the chicken house door and eat his lunch on the peak of the hen house roof. That was a clear shot for a bird to swoop in, grab the cat and had about 100' of driveway to get aloft again before the hydro lines, with the cat in its' claws.

Have a safe day all

Has Covid changed your family plans for Christmas day ? Our house will be much quieter this year with no children or grandkids around.

We had our Christmas with the family yesterday. My wife & I, and our older daughter and her husband, wore our face masks except when we were eating and we were spread out pretty far apart then instead of being at one table. The younger daughter, her 16 year old daughter, our grandson, his wife, and their 2 little ones did not wear masks. But we had a nice time and a great big dinner.

Now Christmas Day, my wife and I will watch TV and maybe play a game of Yahtzee.

Good Morning. 32 and fog here. Looks a forecast high of 40 with rain.

Yesterday was mostly a shop day. Did some clean up, worked on the speaker, opened some incoming packages to sort out presents that I will have to wrap.
Made a quick trip to Doylestown airport to help my son bleed a brake. Unfortunately the master cylinder needs to be rebuilt.

Today I’ll be making some sawdust, I’ve got the router templates on the speaker, so I’m going to make the cutouts and recess for the handle and input plate. Possibly back to the airport to deal with the master cylinder depending on son’s schedule.

I’ve found that the stock in the bins at the big box stores is mixed up more often than it’s correct. It’s not so bad when the difference is obvious, but subtle differences like the drains on the valves can catch me napping, especially if I’m grabbing a quantity of the item.

Good Morning!!!! 43F @ 4:30AM. Sunny. High 59F. Winds light and variable.
Mild and sunny weather continues 'till Friday, when showers move in for the rest of the forecast period.

Generator cover looks good, Drew. Maybe keeping propane in the garage will keep it warmer to work better?

Thanks for the master class in turkey frying, Rick. Think I'll start looking for a VFD out here selling fried turkeys.

Always ad the acid to water, Chris. As you found out, adding the water to acid causes the water to vaporize into steam, splashing the acid everywhere.

I haven't worn a watch since I retired, now more than ten years ago, David. Still haven't figured out a use case strong enough for the iWatch, though I have a drawer full of various generations of old Casio memory watches. You must have some DEEP pockets to fit that Max iPhone.

The CV19 vaccine roll out is looking a lot like the one for chicken pox, at least for me, Don. Took almost a year before I was able to get it, and now I'm not sure if I ever got the second dose.:confused2: Does the CDC publish what they consider to be medical conditions sufficient to jump to a higher tier?

Are you getting close to breaking your bicycle mileage record yet, Bruce?

Glad you got the order straightened out, RS. HD and now TS are both on the "don't shop online" list for me. Just too many fowled up orders, or stuff not on the shelf when the website said they had plenty. It's now over two weeks ago since I got a response from the TS complaint saying I'd hear from a store manager in 48 hours or less. As expected, there's been none.

That's the first I've heard of a Covid mutation being "out in the wild", Eric. Early on it was expected, but maybe not so soon. I'm staying "home alone" this year, though there haven't been as many invitations to travel as usual, I'm sure due to CV19. I think Christmas dinner might be a quail or two cooked out on the rotisserie, if there are any left on Wednesday when I make a run into town.

Too many clouds to see the planets here last night, Mike, but they sure made for a pretty sunset. If it's clear tonight, maybe I'll dig out the old telescope and see what I can see. Same ol' problems with shipping here again yesterday, with a fairly expensive torque wrench left unlocked at the cul-de-sac.:pullinghair: Very tempted to file a false "porch pirate" claim, but it probably wouldn't make any difference in the service and I don't need two wrenches.

I think that's a cowbird too, Ron.

Do you ever find yourself straightening out the mixed up bins at the hardware/big box store, Paul? Somehow I just can't stop myself.:banghead::laughing:

IMG_6886.JPG
Got both sets of hoops welded up and attached yesterday, and it seems like the stacking idea is gonna pan out OK. There is enough scrap left over to weld some extensions at the top and bottom of the hoops to make the top pallet a little less tippy, so I'll do that today. But I think most of today will be spent moving stuff out of the shipping container back into the pump house where it belongs, then digging the splitter out of the box trailer.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start...

Kyle, is that you talking on the compressor video ? After what you said before about your accent, I was pleasantly surprised to clearly hear and understood every word without needing a translation app! :)

haha Eric, the first oring comments were done by my no accent California friend, the last comments were done by me. I speak south Texas "hick". Hope your sheep keep faring well.

RNG : "Glad you got the order straightened out, RS. HD and now TS are both on the "don't shop online" list for me. Just too many fowled up orders, or stuff not on the shelf when the website said they had plenty. "

If you go to HD or TSC yourself and find mixed up parts bins .. imagine what happens to the "genius" pulling your online order .. for pickup .. who wouldn't know a ball valve from a ball peen hammer?

Thanks to RS's misadventures, we don't have to imagine anything, Rick. Even though it's awkward, maybe even a little rude, to open the box or bag and see if what you ordered is inside, while the clerk is watching, I should do it more.:grumpy:

Good morning! Happy First Day Of Winter!! Also the shortest day of the year and the anniversary of the day I gave my wife her engagement ring 46 years ago.
30˚F heading to the 70s. Clear skies.

RNG I was wondering the same question on medical conditions. You cannot advance from the 3rd level to the 2nd level only the 4th level can advance to the third level.
Does anyone know how many doses of vaccine are produced a day or week? I figure I'm a 100 million+ doses out.

I need to do some quick chain sharpening, it appears we will go to the park this week. Last week they called it a killer week because we got a lot done but two chain saws were killed, mine was the only one still working at the end of the session.

Ron will you be able to get a zoomed pic of the planets this evening?

I put on a long monotoned YouTube video about a spectrum analyzer and fell asleep in the lazy boy. Wife came by twice to wake me and I promptly fell back asleep. The video was interesting, the guy started by taking the circuit board out and explained all the circuitry and what it did as the signal was processed, then I went under as he was using it.

32° and heavy fog. Will go into the office later to finish one test.

37°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 55° today.

Busy weekend. Wife took the foster puppy to her new home in Chatham IL, just south of Springfield, Saturday morning. I did some errand running while she was gone. I didn't plan on it taking the whole morning, but I got back home shortly before 1pm. Took a short nap, then puttered around the house the rest of the day. She took her youngest son Xmas shopping Sunday morning. I did some more stuff around the house in the morning, then finally got some studio time late afternoon and into the evening while she finished wrapping presents.

We were talking about things we have in storage yesterday, and the Wife brought up my old telescope. Would be nice to have for tonight's celestial event, but not sure I want to spend the time after work digging it out. I guess binoculars will have to do.

Magnificent story about the ewe, Eric.

Welcome to the GM thread, Joe.
