I could use some advice on a caulking/sealant product.
my shower head piping goes through a hole in the tile with quite a bit of
clearance, and no support all the way back to the connection.
I want to support the piping where it comes through the wall, and let that area take the
pressure when the showerhead is taken on and off, plus there's a bulky water filter up there too.
too much weight on an unsupported pipe. And of course the other end failed and had to be replaced.
I'd like to preserve the new part and I can't imagine this lasting all that long getting bonked back
and forth, no matter how careful I am.

so...plain silicon caulk? I'm wary of strong industrial adhesives in case the pipe does need
replacing in the future. I guess I'd like something medium strong that I can just squeeze in the hole
around the pipe and have it solidify, all hidden by chrome face plate.

this is a mechanical contact between tile/some backer board and a copper pipe.
whole tube of silicone caulk is two bucks. I'd waste 99 percent of it since likely years before I need it again.
and then those tubes are always hard as a rock.
which is why I buy small disposable quantities now.

does plain silicon caulk get hard enough or do I need some kind of hybrid?
something the next plumber will not swear at me because...

a rubber grommet that pushes in to grip the pipe might work too.
that would take careful measuring
hmmmm
I think two bucks worth of sealant is a cheap enough fix...
now Popgadget would be building that grommet to perfection in his deposition machine.
I don't think he can do flexible/rubber stuff but ?
Sounds to me like the pipe has lost its support inside the wall. They usually are shored up with clamps on 2x4 supports. If the wall leaks onto the supports, it will rot over time. Can someone get to the inside of the wall from the other side?

I like an access door on the backside of plumbing but the one bathroom remodeled the contractor didn't put one. When I had to replace the shower faucet a plumber friend said just buy a decorative chrome plate which I did. I cut the wall about an inch smaller than plate which made easy access.
They make round chrome covers for shower head like 3"-4" diameter like a large washer. Some have two screws either side.

Good (Monday) morning. Overnight Low of 6.3C and it's presently 19.3C, clear & calm.

It looks like I'm going to need a trap for this possum... it's getting bolder. Not aggressive, just stubborn to leave Penelope's food. I needed to don my welding gauntlets to physically grab it last evening.

Just to reassure you, there is no rabies in Australia. One of the reasons that we have such strict quarantine laws.

I'm not sure what I'll get up to today, although I heard a rumour at Church that there may be a 'sign site', that I didn't put up, that needs taking down. So, perhaps an afternoon drive today.

That's about it, take care all.

Good morning, the low wads 47 and going up to 72°F. Wind SSW 7 mph. Sunny!

I'm off to the garage at 8, bank first then garage and get my summer tires on, oil changed, check engine light dealt with AND the lose gas cap indicator issue.

Wagtail, can you not give your possum lead poisoning?

Have a safe day all
