Sounds good. I mix this into the batterrs, are you going to treat the end grain?
Had pancakes for supper with 4 year old dark maple syrup.

Won't the exposed bottom be more prone to wick and hold moisture with the sides sealed?Only the top of the posts, bottom gets left as is.
