Sorry about the Dengue...sounds terrible.Girlfriend and her family live in the Philippines. Dengue is fairly common there, and can be deadly.
It can be worse if you get it multiple times, and the goal is prevention. I'm already looking for mosquito nets and some DDT included bug repellent for them as this is the second time in as many years one of her family has had Dengue. (Any suggestions on the spray would be helpful.)
She's doing better, hopefully this is the last person in her family to have it.
Besides DEET discussed below, and spraying permethrin on clothes and hats, picaridin is another option for use on skin. DEET has been known to damage plastics and synthetics (e.g. melt through the fabric on backpacks) so folks often use picaridin. The NP rangers I've talked with spray their clothes with permethrin since it is very effective against ticks and lasts days or weeks.
