Or a buried 1000 gallon if the room is available. It could even be by the well with a small pit for the booster pump or suspend a small submersible.

Plenty room, just out of my comfort zone (burying a tank near the surface)

Just putting un-pressurized (and vented) storage tanks in the basement has a me a little nervous ... as our current system is sealed.

Would require some additional research but something to consider.

Also does it have a bladder and has the pre-charge been checked lately ?

That should be done at least once per year.

Frequent start/stop cycles are hard on the pump (aka "short cycling")

Got in touch with a driller up in Kirtland yesterday to inquire if they did water well fracing (they don't) but spent some time talking with him about well rehabilitation. Really sounded like he knew his stuff ... at least for the area he is working in.

Not having actually inspected our well, he hazarded a guess that the issue might be iron bacteria.

Not sure that is actually the case, but we do/did have a large pleated filter installed in-line after the pressure tank before the softener. It typically needs changed once every month or two.

When you pull it, it's covered in fine iron sediment which restricts flow. And the inside of the housing is covered in a thin bio-film (slime)

Discussed various rehab methods that they use - chemical, brush and bail, and injection of nitrogen under pressure.

I have seen some mention of the nitrogen process in trade journals and on industry forums, so was kinda interested.

He said we were out of their service area (they are probably around an hour or better away) and when I said where exactly we were he mentioned our driller, apparently knew him or his father or grandfather.

I mentioned that our driller considered brushing and bailing a waste of time ... which kind of surprised him ("Really ... ?")

Asked him about what they were seeing with the nitrogen process and what kind of success they were having. Said they have only had the capability for around a year, had done 60 wells with improvement on 59.

That particular machine is currently in the shop for repairs, so no idea when it will be back in service.

Asked him what we'd be looking at in terms of an initial charge for rehab if they were willing to make the trip.

He said he'd talk to his son who now runs the company and see if he would be willing to come down and if so what kind of number we'd be looking at.

Scott I average around 450w out and mine is 110V. not sure you would gain much for the extra cost of 220V that is with 30w drive from radio

rs, it is funny that you blame most of your heavy snows on Alberta. Ours come from Colorado AND Alberta. The real fun time happens when a Colorado low AND Alberta clipper meet.
Then we can get anywhere from a foot to three feet plus.

It sounds like high iron could be screwing up your well.

Trying not to get my hopes up too high but there is a possibility that I might be getting close to hitting pay dirt on the frac'ing.

Was making calls to all the firms listed in the PA database for western PA and noticed there was a firm listed with a 330 area code.

Looked them up and found out they are located just down the road in Canal Fulton (6 miles south)

They're more of an environmental services firm - engineering, testing, UST's, brownfield remediation and the like - that was founded by some local geologists ... so I was pretty sure that they wouldn't be a provider but figured that maybe being in a somewhat-related field someone there might know of someone in the area that did water well frac'ing.

As luck would have it my call got routed to a fellow who had to have the well frac'ed at the family home out on River Styx Road in Seville in order to sell it.

Said they had a real hard time finding anyone local to do it but had great water and well productivity after it was done.

He didn't have the number handy in his phone but made a call to Grandma who is now on the case, going through old paperwork to try and come up with a name and number for the firm that did it.

Yeah ... we're lucky in that we're at the southern end of the secondary Lake Erie snowbelt and we usually don't get it too bad.

Go 30 miles northeast of here, up around Chardon and they get hammered like you are talking about.

Probably iron and other minerals.

People tend to think that a well once drilled should last forever.

That ain't necessarily the case.

A lowering the level in the water table can happen as population growth occurs and new homes are built but sediment infiltration and mineral encrustation can occur as well.

Good but long day at work,afternoon to backpack blower 2+ hour hike area leaves were deeper than usual,oak leaves barely starting to turn.

Going down the driveway this morning Boo was strolling up the driveway,I said morning Boo he stops and stare than sat down.
