First .... glad that you're relatively OK.
Second .... this is freaking nuts. Why was he walking around free? What was he doing in your barn at dark o'clock? Why didn't the county mounty not just shoot his butt for resisting arrest? He knew that he was armed and dangerous. It would have saved a lot of time, trouble and taxpayer dollars. I suppose that's the difference between the law and justice.

I am glad things were not any more serious and equally glad he only had a .22 as anything more would do a lot more damage to your hand (lesser of two evils).
This is something I always worry about and one of the reasons I started carrying my .45 more often. I couldn't carry it for a while because of the holster digging into my side where I was operated on. So I bought a under arm holster and now I can carry it again in comfort and not have any problems sitting on the tractor or the truck (gun always seems to catch something with my hip holster).
Where I live we get a lot of drifters walking down Rt. 20 going from town to town so I have to keep my house, barn and vehicles locked 24/7. I have had drifters sleep in one of our cars one time as it wasn't locked. They were nice enough to leave their licqour bottle when the left

I do hope I never have to use my .45 or any of my other guns to defend myself or my family but I will if given no other choice. And if I ever even think my daughter's life is in jeapordy, well.... I won't get into that situation

This is an absolutely shocking story. I know it can happen anywhere but, wow! You just never know. I'm very glad you do not have more serious injuries and I sure hope that was the last time this person walks free, ever. I've had my ccw permit for 20+ years, just don't ever really think it will happen. Naive on my part.

We had one of these perverts in our area for a long time. He didn't get in as much trouble when he abused horses instead of little girls so he kept coming back to visit the horses every now and then. I am guessing that one of your horses is a mare.
If he isn't caught again soon, he will be back and I hope you are better prepared next time.
