How about a picture?

i agree with syderlk - tires can take on alot of abuse. it just takes a right amount of force and angle to cut those tractor tires. I would go back and explain the issue. After all - your dealer would want you to come back to keep buying other stuff if they want your business. Around here - i am very particular on how people treat me. If any business owner doesn't want to take the time to talk at least 5 minutes, then i am out the door. I have NO problem driving another 20- 50 miles to next business owner to get the services I WANT! they get my money , not the one who don't take the time to listen just for the sake of convenience.;) good luck and remember to keep a cool head.

I think I would be pretty upset also. I don't wax my rims, but I take exceptional care of my stuff. If they replaced the tire using your rim, there's a chance they would scuff it up and make the problem even worse. I would definitely talk to them though. Sorry this happened to you.

I'd like to see a picture. I take good care of my machine too (have never waxed the rims) but I also use my tractor very hard and the R1 rears have lots of cuts and gouges in them and they are of zero consequence to the way the tires function and really don't affect their lifespan either. So if this gash is just in the tread, I don't think it amounts to anything.

The other thing to consider is that this kid apparently is used to putting a fork through the rim to lift the tires. This may be how he was instructed to do it and most tractor owners probably don't care about a little scratch on the hole in the rim. You might have asked him to do it in a way that he is not used to, which lead to the tire damage. Most mechanics also do not accept assistance from owners and I know that is some garages this is absolutely forbidden, for liability and other reasons.

Now, that's not to say I wouldn't be mad about it. Regradless of the pre-conditions, he did put a gouge in your tire. Cool off. Assess how real the damage actually is and then discuss it with the shop owner if you think it is significant.

N80 - I'm in the same line of thinking as you. That's why I asked for a picture. If its just a nick in one of the bars on the tire as the poster mentioned I find it amazing that so many replies think this is a big deal. If its something more substantial then I would be a little more understanding. After all, were dealing with tractors that are ment to be worked. I'd drive myself crazy and would get half of what I wanted accomplished done if I worried about every little scratch, dent, and especially tire tread. As I mentioned earlier, talk to the manager about your concerns, however unless a picture can show something more substantial than what has been described I find it hardly significant.

Right. But, if this gouge exposes ply or is in the sidewall something like that, then the gloves come off

Safety Always Comes First!
Have the Dealer inspect the tire.
If Tractor is not SAFE using that tire. The tire will need to be replaced by them..

That would make my blood boil! And I'm not nearly that attentive to my equipment that I wax the rims!

This actually makes me angry. Because the OP specifically told the kid to be carefull of scratches, and the kid replied that he would use a nylon strap to load the tires. There is no way on earth that you can cut a tire with a nylon lifting strap. So he flat out lied. On top of that, it takes a considerable amount of force and speed to gash a tire. So my thought is that as soon as he got done filling the tire, he ran at it with the forks and either pinched it or tried to scoop it up and that when he damage happened. I would not want anyone who loads my equipment onto my truck to act like that.

In his post he said a FORKLIFT CAME BY, how does that mean the KID did it? But that does not matter in a sense. I have seen the end of some forks very sharp from wear and it probably was done pushing the tire into place in your truck. So was the side of the bed bent?

Cut lugs in the thread area, man that happens in use. That does not mean you don't have a reason to complain. It would seem they should have noticed it and should have addressed it with you right up front.

Like I said its cosmetic damage and does not warrant replacement. But it still makes me mad it happen, and to the person who blames me for not letting him peel the paint off my rims , well I care about things like that you don't thats good for you but the only mistake I made was leaving that kid alone with my tires.
I went to the dealer today mostly concerned about the plow deal. I thought the 2300.00 was for a brand new plow and front mount.
Turns out the plow and the front mount were out in the weather for a long time..the plow was not too bad but the mount would have to be repainted.
Said it would be well over 2500.00 if they ordered a new one.
I told the salesman the whole story about the gash he said I should talk to the service manager. My main concern at this point was why can't they get me a new plow for 2300.00, not the tire.
I did see the kid and said to him you put a gash in my tire he basically said so what, worst attitude you have ever seen, said the yard man did it, and did not care in the least. I thanked him for his consern and he said no problem, called him a piece of s**t and walked away. I was pissed off about the kids attitude and the fact they didn't have a new plow. I called another dealer right from the salesmans office who said he can get the new plow for 2400.00 by Friday I drove 50 miles to leave a deposit, only to find out the front hitch is back ordered and won't be in until February. They couldn't tell me that over the phone. I drove back to the first dealer and bought the plow for 2100.00. The tire never came up again because I didn't feel like saying ok now that I finally got the plow lets go over to the service manager and start all over again - I had enough for one day.

How about a picture?

Here are the pictures of the tire:
