Looking at those pictures i have to say that it really isnt a big deal. yes its your "baby" but its a tractor not a Ferrarri! Its on the tread, not like he stuck it thru the sidewall. WOW.. And calling him "a piece of s**t " maybe it was the attitude that you put forward that resulted in the lack of concern on the mechanics part.

Customers like yourself make me glad i worked on heavy construction equipment, and not for people who get all bent over minor things that really dont matter in the function of the machine.

That's why I do 99.9 % of the work on my tractor myself because of careless workers like you , who decide what matters and what doesn't on my 30,000 piece of equpment

Who said I was careless? Have fun working on your $30000 piece of equipment. Im sure with your attitude the dealership wont miss your business. 30000? Ive changed transmissions worth more.:D

Ficord,

There are a couple points of view. Yours is pretty plain that you paid dern good money for a tractor and you want to keep it dern nice.

Other points of view are equally valid that a tractor is a tool that gets used hard and some wear / damage will occur. Farmers say that the "new tractor smell" wears off after the first load of manure.

Many tractor users are more concerned about getting the crop out of the field than how nice the paint looks. Doesn't make them bad people or even careless. Just focused on different priorities.

You probably went over the top on your response given the damage to the tire being minimal. It should not have happened, but it did. I bet that had the "kid" been upfront and apologized about it happening when you first walked up, there would be a different discussion going on right now! Mistakes happen. Bad judgment exists. I can get along with those. But poor attitudes --- yuck. don't like those, don't put up with them.

Thanks for the pic Ficord, but man - you've got to learn to prioritize what is important in life. If your that worked up over a mark on a tire your going to live a short and stressful life. Probably just used the forks to push the tire after it was set on the trailer. More of a mark than a gash and hardly worth getting worked up over and calling someone a piece of sh**.

Go take that tractor and mow next to some locust trees. Once you get a few scratches run down the sides you'll spend a lot less time worrying about waxing those rims and much more time enjoying the tractor. :D Worked well for me.

I remember the day I bought my four wheeler. It looked very nice..all shiney and new. Who wants to ride a $8,000 machine through the woods and mud when it's brand new? MEEEEE. It's a lot more fun when there's scratches on it. Now when out in the woods and in the mud I don't worry about it. But I wash it after every ride. Crazy huh? Wife says it's my A.D.D. but I think it's my.....hey wanna go ridding?

When the dealer gave you a price for loading the tires, he based that price on using his standard practices. When you demanded that he depart from his standard practices, did you offer to pay for his increased costs?

If I ever got worked up over a scratch like that on my tire, I would quit working with it and just use it as a lawn ornament.

Today a tree from my neighbor's property fell over our shared private drive and blocked it. He doesn't have a tractor, and I needed to use the private drive so i drove my tractor down there and moved the tree. Probably put 3 or 4 more significant marks on my tires doing that, not to mention the dents & scratches on the FEL bucket.

My point here is that I work with my tractor and it picks up a few marks along the way. That mark on your tire is just another one of the many it will get if you ever really use it.

As you can probably guess, I don't wax my rims. About the closest I have come to that was when I took a Sharpie marker and wrote the correct tire inflation pressure on the rims, right next to the valve stems. I did write it neatly...

Relax and enjoy using your tractor.

Brought my tires in to get loaded with rim guard. I asked the kid filling them how he plans to get them back on the truck. He said the fork lift through the rim. I told him I wax those rims and don't want them scratched - he said he would use a nylon strap.

I am pretty sure they are still yakking it up in the dealer's shop. Severely cleaned up version follows:

"This guy came in and actually said he waxes his rims. Didn't want me to use the forks to put the loaded tires and rims into the back of his truck. Said he was afraid I would scratch a rim. Wanted me to use a strap."

"He does what????? Oh for Pete's sake? So what did you use to lift them?"

"The forks, of course."

<Sounds of laughter>

Guys I didn't make a big deal about the 1/4 inch deep scratch as you call it.
Your right if it happens while your using the tractor oh well.
But it happen because that person didn't think it was a big deal to him so he can treat it the way he wants and what ever damage happens Oh well.
Just like the other poster " people who get all bent over minor things that really dont matter in the function of the machine" so this guys attitude is the same as the kids Hey as long as it still works I can cause any damage I want as long as it still functions.
I didn't go and get the kid fired, I didn't go and demand a tire or money.
I asked the kid well 30 year old did he know he did it.

Yeah so what if i did so what, that was his response then the yard guy did it.
Not gee sorry about that.
All I posted was should I say something or just forget it.
I didn't know I would get all this advice over it..

Every one else posted what they would do and your acting like I wrote all them.
My first post I asked what should I do , My second post I talked to the Kid only because I seen him.
If you were there the next day and just happen to see the kid would you just say Hi Or would you ask if he knew .
His response and attitude was wrong and so is the other poster mechanic .

I own a used car dealership/ Garage for 28 years we do all repairs on American and Foreign and cars and light trucks Anybody would be fired in a minute if they had the attitude of these guys.
We don't have the mind set in my business that as long as it still works we can cause any damage we want. Whether its a car . a boat a farm tractor if its not yours and your working on it treat it with respect.
don't assume that just because its a tractor and you don't care about any damage the owner won't care either.
Remember everyone else posted what they thought I should do .
I posted what I did and that was not to make a big deal about it . So please don't read anymore into it then what I actually did.
And just for your information I have put 201 hrs on my tractor since January 2008 and that tire damage is the worse thing that happen to it 10 months of use and it still looks brand new.
So you can use your tractor without damage , but if someone is going to damage my tractor I want it to be me not the mechanic working on it.
