A tight fitting socket works best with a impact.

Well to answer bearthebruce, the hardware looks great. No rust, no paint.

I just bought a new complete 1/2" drive set - never thinking I'd ever use a 3/4" :)

I have to believe that the 30" breaker bar with my son & I on it to make sure it stays on the heads will be enough. I do have a 30" 1-1/4" pipe nipple in the garage, jic.

I'll let you know what we break.

A little touch of a propane torch on the nut only can be helpful.

You’ll be fine with all that.

On my backhoe I had to use a 3/4" pull handle with a 6' pipe on it.

I did buy myself a 3/4" HF impact but I don't have a good enough compressor to run it. I added the HF version of high flow fittings to my compressor and hose. Planning to upgrade to a two stage 175 lb compressor with 1/2" hose at some point. The only thing I tried the impact on was a piston bolt for a 4-1/2" bore crowd cylinder. Didn't touch it. I took the piston and rod to the yellow JD dealer and they pulled out the exact same HF gun I bought and zapped the bolt right off. I didn't ask what pressure they were running but they did have a large diameter air hose. Looked to be 3/4" but it may have been 1/2".

Success! My son hasn't come home yet so I decided to try one more time with the 30" breaker bar. The WD40 has been on now for several hours. Maybe that did the trick?
otoh if I was 50 years younger maybe it wouldn't have been so bad :) Thanks to all!

A 3 foot piece of black heavy wall gas pipe from Lowe’s works great as a cheater bar if your impact doesnt work. I have one that is 30 years old that I have to use every few years.
