I like to use a jack stand or even a floor jack directly under the handle to hold the extension level and straight with the nut.
Put the handle a little above level on the side where it needs to go down.
Using the handle off my hi lift jack as an extension (36” ish long pipe)
I step up on the pipe and use the tractor to hold my balance and gently “bounce” the extension with my weight. A slow easy bounce rather than Hail Mary jump on it or you get to see broken tools laying on the floor along with your butt while you’re wondering what just happened!
Always works for me to break it free. If it didn’t, my next step involves heat.
