Had a red squirrel chewing holes in my garage, my shop, and even under the hood of my truck. Been after the little rascal for three weeks now with my little .22, but the fellow was older and probably had more experience with firearms than me! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

This afternoon, while cleaning my Marlin, the dogs chased him up a pine tree about 40 yards from me and kept him distracted with plenty of barking. I reassembled the Marlin, chambered a round, and picked off that varmint just clean as you please! Of course, since the Marlin is a .35, it also blew off the top ten feet of the tree, but that's a small price to pay for an end to all the damage. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Thanks to the United States Marine Corps for teaching me how to shoot.

Hi Pete, you know the problem with red squirrels? If you see one there will be more. I'd keep that 22 handy. Still plan to get up your way but with a one month old baby in the house things are a little hectic. Good thing I practiced sleep deprivation in the Nav./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Maybe Derek and I will get together to get up there.
Take care,
Al

I'll take a pic of the windbreak. The gap from the blown off top looks like a busted tooth! The squirrel was pretty much part of the tree after the shot. Got two more today, but much smaller than the monster that had been doing all the damage.

Awe, now that .35 Marlin sounds nice. But, for squirrel, I expected you might use a SAW... maybe a Stoner System, or M60 /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

You know, you can get a Browning .50BMG converted to semi-auto these days/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Of course, the one I saw was aboput $8000

Jeez - just get one of your air-force buddies to come past with an A-10 while you're at it!

And here I've been using my bow to try and hit them. I guess Pete likes a challenge (finding em after hitting them that is!)

Pete is that how you chop down your xmas tree as well?

I would have thought you could have thrown your KaBar and nailed him that way. Or maybe done a stealth attack dressed in your Ghillie suit?

Pete,

You just tell these guys like Burt did in "Tremors II":
"Just doing what I can with what I got."

Course, that was just after he blew a hole through a cement block wall. And the side of a car that they needed. And through the engine block. And out the other side...

Come to think of it, are you sure it's legal to hunt squirrel with a 35? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
