GR2020/2120 series mowers

Good question on how big the market is for GT with tillers. I started with a Wheel Horse 12hp garden tractor and eventually bought a used tiller for it. Used it a dozen times or so to do lawn reno projects. I just sold it last year (for more than I paid oddly). If I were a potential buyer of a GT (and didn't have larger tractors), even if I didn't need a tiller now, or other rear attachments (how 'bout a clevis hitch??), I'd still want to know what implements I could add down the line if/when I needed them. Just seems like a competitive disadvantage to me.

By the way, I happened to look at the Kubota prior product web link and saw that Kubota use to make a tiller for the old G series tractors, but never for the GR series. I think as soon as they intro'd the BX series, the new GR series dropped the tiller option. Obviously you can use any type of suitable pull-type implements, but what about clevis or sleeve hitch implements. Brinly and others (agrifab??) make a line of sleeve or clevis hitch implements for GTs, so a rear implement lift would be nice even if there's no option for rear PTO implements.

I have not received my GR2120 yet (get it on Friday!), but from what I have seen, looks like the pto for the mower and snow blower comes from the back towards the front. This may limit their capabilities? I know the BX is a more heavy duty line up than my GR, but I did not need the rear pto, 3pt, FEL capable, or the extra cost, length, and weight. With 2 other tractors in the barn, a 4WD diesel lawn mower with a snowblower fit my needs perfectly. But I hear ya, may not fit everyone elses. The GR does have a small clevis hitch on the back, so you could pull the Agrifab tiller. Nice implements, I have never been into the small plot gardening, but I could see where others could. Philip.

Hmm, I'll have to look again next time I'm at the dealers. I thought it had a basic hole in back to pin on towable implements/attachments. The Brinly or Agri-fab implements can be lifted for transport, etc., on a GT with a clevis/sleeve hitch with manual or hydraulic (or electric I guess) implement lift. I did not think the GR had that type of hitch set up, standard or optional.

I'm not trying to knock the GR as it looks to be quite a robust GT, especially with a diesel option, just curious why Kubota limits its attachment options. I would be in the market for a used diesel G or GR if my 20-year-old Wheel Horse ever dies. It's just so much easier to mow with a dedicated mower then convert my BX25 to mowing duty once a week (or more these days with all the rain we're having). Do post up some pic's of your GR when you get it, especially the rear hitch area.

Yes,the capabilities of the GR series tractors are nearly endless.

This is where you start;

Then you beef up the framework and add this;

So you can use a box blade(18" digger shanks optional);

Or,a hitch mounted boom/hand sprayer(I really like this gadjet)

Or,a twin-powered reverse tine tiller for the garden;

Up front it's quite capable also; a real backsaver-gave the wheelbarrow away;

Cold weather attachments are very handy,too.Love that power angle V-plow w/joystick control while sitting in the heated hard cab;

Of course you can't buy any of these things,you can only get them in new boxes of Breeze......:cool2::cool2::cool2:

You're welcome to come down anytime.Lot of fun building this stuff.

In all seriousness,Kubota needs to redesign this series and add a rear hitch for ground attachments.Also need to upgrade the hydro,it's much weaker than the competition,which right now is Simplicity and Deere.Having said that,the Glidesteer system is superior to the other brands,IMHO. Maybe call it the new GRX series for X-tended capabilities.

Locknut, that rear clevis or sleeve hitch (never quite sure what the difference is) is what I'm referring to, but Kubota needs to make it an OEM option and one that is powered off of the hydraulic lift for the mower; and some kind of tiller option. Nice mod's you have there. You're the Paul Shorts (4Shorts) of the GR series.

I find it interesting that the owners manual for my 2120 doesn't mention (at least not that I could find) anything about that hitch on the back of the tractor, how much weight it can handle and how much tongue weight, etc. Not complaining, but the entire owners manual could use a re-organization. The old Wheel Horse that this machine is replacing had very specific numbers as to what you should be towing behind it. I must admit that the Wheel Horse numbers were very conservative and our Wheel Horse has been towing considerably more than their limit for 33 years now..

Seems people are happy with the GR2120.I am contemplating buying one but am not sure yet.I recently bought a B2620 as a do all maintenance tractor for my property.I previously had two tractors,anL3240 for heavier work and a BX2360 for mowing.I am not real happy with the mowing performance of the 2620.I guessed it wouldn't be as good as the BX but didn't think the difference would be as great as it is.My biggest problem is the front tires tearing up the turf when making turns.I pretty much have to avoid full lock turns completely and make three point turns,even when the tractor is capable of turning sharper,to avoid tearing the turf.Even so I am getting more damage than I like to see.About the only thing I can think of to make it better is to lower the air pressure which I am going to try the next mowing.
So my question to GR2120 owners is does that tractor cause turf damage when making full lock turns?I assume the damage,if any,would be minimal but would like to hear from actual owners.Is it possible to even cause turf damage or is the Glide Steer system that good?One other concern I have is mowing on side hills.My property has three areas where I pretty much have to mow sideways on a hill.Both the BX and B have a seatbelt which holds me on the seat.The GR doesn't have a seatbelt so do owners find it hard to stay on the seat on fairly steep side hills?I am thinking the armrest kit might help a bit.I would appreciate any input from GR2120 owners.

I JUST got done mowing, and it started raining half way thorugh. The way one of the rear tires unlocks during a sharp turn makes tight manuvers very easy. I have yet to see any turf damage, even in the rain tonight. I have a short but steep slope at our pond. When I mow it, half of my butt is on the seat, the other half of my butt is on the fender. Have not slide off yet. Philip.
