Grand L 3pt smoothness

Hello All

Just a small deal here but I thought I'd ask. My L4330 takes about an inch of 3pt lever movement before a reaction occurs at the lift. My fathers JD 790 is super smooth and reacts to very small inputs on the lever. I am using Kubota UDT right now but will switch to Amsoil ATH soon. Is this normal operation of 3pt on the Grand L's? Will the Multi-weight Amsoil make a difference? Thanks.

have you tried to adjust the rate of lift on the 3pt? On my L2900 there is a knob below the seat you turn to speed it up or slow it down.
It may or may not make a difference but it's worth checking out.

The knob under the seat (between your legs and near the floor) only controls the rate of descent of the TPH not the rate of ascent.

It's to compensate for heavier implements over lighter ones.

I'm not sure what you mean by "at the lift", but here's what mine does. When the lever is set at full up or full down position, then it does take quite a bit of movement (maybe an inch or more) to get the implement to initially respond, but once the implement moves and the lever is somewhere within that number range, then it takes very little adjustment of the lever to fine tune the implement right where I want it.

By "at the lift" I meant the 3pt arms. Mine takes about an inch of lever movement in any area to get the arms to move! Maybe the synthetic will help or maybe this just happens in colder temps? Guess I will find out soon enough if it is the oil!

on my new L3130, i've noticed that with a cordwood saw attached and when i'm done for the day, i'll put the 3ph lever all the way down to drop it. next time i start it up and need to lift it, i move the lever to about the number "4" position before it starts to lift off the ground. once it starts to lift however, it's smooth, responsive and moves with just minor changes in the lever. hope this helps. i have SUDT in mine.

Thanks. Mine doesn't move till about 4 or 5 either. I noticed that there is a linkage going to the top of the 3pt that is threaded with a lock nut for adjustment. All that does is adjusts the maximum height that the 3pt can lift to. You can go too far with this as the mechanical limits of the 3pt will not allow further movement. If the adjuster is set too far it will continue to try to push after mechanical limit has been achived. I just backed it off from that point and set it there. This did not affect the smoothness. There does not appear to be an adjustment for when the 3pt . starts raising. The 3pt is silky smooth going down just not nearly as smooth going up.

Had the same problem that you describe with my L5030. My dealer changed the 3 point hitch control valve twice with the same results. Afer fighting it for two weeks the mechanic decided to by-pass the one hydralic remote (that had been installed at purchase) and it worked beautifully. Turns out that the remote had some defect in it. The dealer asked if I had run any contaminated fluid through it but I informed them that the remote had NEVER been used. I had it installed for future implement purchases. I also learned that the remotes are considered accessaries and only have a one year warrenty unlike the rest of the tractor. My tractor is just under two years old and the service manager initially told me that I would have to pay for repairs but after speaking to the dealer manger and explaining that I never used the remote they took care of it. That is a prime example of the importance of having a good dealer /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

Could you get the specifics of the issue with the remote? Was it night and day difference?

Yes it made a huge difference. My 3 point did just as you described. I had to move the range handle a full number before the arms moved up and when they did finally move the movement was almost an inch. This made it very difficult to hook-up implements and also doing grading work. Once the dealer by-passed the remote by reinstalling a blank-off plate where the remote ties into the 3 point valve assembly the lift moved in very small increments. Just a slight movement of the lift lever causes the lift arms to raise ever so slightly. Do you have any rear remotes?
